But then Emily Blunt addressed fans’ demands and noted how she desperately wants a sequel.
Although Emily Blunt claimed that it’s rather difficult to come up with a sequel especially since it’s been nearly a decade, fans recently found hope for the second installment of Edge of Tomorrow. It all happened after Tom Cruise partnered with Warner Bros in a deal to work on original and franchise films, starting in 2024.

When two terrific actors like Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise came together to share the screen for their 2014 sci-fi movie, it was obvious it would turn into a massive hit. Thus, undoubtedly Edge of Tomorrow became a critically acclaimed blockbuster when it hit the theatres. Fans were star-struck to witness Cruise and Blunt together on-screen, serving them with a brilliant masterpiece.
Ever since then, audiences have been waiting for Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt to reprise their roles for a sequel. But fans were always faced with disappointment, as neither the actors nor the production team discussed anything about a sequel in development. However, in 2023, Blunt finally addressed fans’ demands and expressed her desperation for a sequel.

“Doug and I talk all the time about it. I know Tom wants to do it, hopefully, at some point. But it’s timing, but it’s also been ten years since we made it … There was an amazing script in the works, but I think it would only have worked if we shot it eight years ago. I’m not saying we’re that ancient, but you have to factor in it’s been ten years.” Blunt told Variety.
Emily Blunt’s update sparked hope among fans as they were informed about how the actress has been talking with the director and hoping for a sequel.
Tom Cruise’s Deal With Warner Bros Sparked Hope
However, following Emily Blunt’s 2023 discussion with Variety, silence fell over the potential development of the Edge of Tomorrow sequel. But now, 2024 brings good news as Warner Bros signed a significant deal with Tom Cruise. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise partnered with Warner Bros. to work on “original and franchise theatrical films” starting in 2024.
Following Tom Cruise signing the deal, Warner Bros. chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy expressed their hope to lure the actor toward the Edge of Tomorrow sequel. The outlet noted,
“DeLuca and Abdy have also hoped to lure Cruise back for a follow-up to the 2104 film Edge of Tomorrow, which the studio already had in development before they took over.”
With the news of the deal and the media outlet reporting how the Warner Bros. chiefs are hoping for the 2014 movie’s sequel, fans are desperately waiting for the greenlight on Edge of Tomorrow 2. While the news is indeed heartwarming, the report added a significant detail that Warner Bros won’t produce anything starring Cruise anytime soon, since the actor is busy with possibly the last Mission: Impossible movie.
So, it seems while there’s a possibility of Edge of Tomorrow 2, starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise, the movie won’t be starting its development and production until 2025.
