Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is one of the most anticipated games of 2024. Fans of the original title have been waiting for this DLC for the better part of two years now. But as is usual with FromSoftware, they are known to take their sweet time with their games as well as expansions.

But after two years of waiting, it does not seem like fans of Elden Ring will be getting good news anytime soon. It looks like FromSoftware is nowhere near completing and/or releasing Shadow of the Erdtree anytime soon!

Looks like Elden Ring fans will be waiting longer than they thought for this DLC to launch!

This open-world take on FromSoftware’s long-running Soul series of games is no doubt something special. These games thrive on the repetition of the same levels and bosses’ fun; if they fail to do so, that means they aren’t exactly doing something right. Imagine having to do that with a game that is numerous times larger than any game FromSoftware has ever made. They succeeded in achieving that goal, and this game was so good that it became one of their largest successes and won numerous awards too.

So how hard would it be for them to develop a DLC for this game? Maybe more than anyone can imagine, as they are still hard at work on it. Recently, FromSoftware’s parent company, Kadokawa, mentioned the DLC in the FAQ section of its financial report. The FAQ section is full of questions regarding FromSoftware’s recent games, such as Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon and Elden Ring. The one that’s most relevant to Elden Ring fans is the question, “What is the development status of DLC for ELDEN RING and when will it be released?”

The answer to this question is also a very straightforward one. Coming straight from FromSoftware, it says, “We are currently working hard on the development of DLC for ELDEN RING but we have not announced a release date at this time.”

This means they are not yet ready to announce the date either. This might also mean that this DLC is nowhere near being launched. Given how large everyone says it might end up being, this comes as no surprise. Let’s not forget Elden Ring itself, which took five years to develop. So, it’s no surprise that a DLC so big that some are considering it to be a sequel to the game is also taking this much time.

Here’s hoping they do not go beyond 2024, though. Fans might not have the patience to go this long without that DLC.

Why is the name of this DLC not mentioned in the report?

FromSoftware seems to have refrained from using this DLCs name in the recent financial report

While the DLC would launch when it will, the unusual thing to notice here is that FromSoftware themselves mention it as the “DLC for Elden Ring.” It’s unusual because they announced the name for it a while ago; why wouldn’t they use that in these write-ups?

Maybe there are some changes in plans that FromSoftware and Namco have not relayed to the people yet. Maybe they are changing the name of the DLC? This would only be revealed when fans hear about it next from the developer itself.
