The beloved Hollywood star Pedro Pascal has once again won over the hearts of millions with his appearance at the 30th Annual SAG Awards. The 48-year-old actor, who secured his SAG for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for The Last of Us, has also sparked considerable attention for his red carpet look, which has now fans rallying for the actor to embody the iconic masked hero, Zorro.
Created by writer Johnston McCulley, the character has been the subject of several adaptations, including Antonio Banderas’ 1998 film The Mask of Zorro and its sequel. And fans are now re-imagining Pascal in the role as they share their reaction to his red carpet looks.
Pedro Pascal Shined at the 2024 SAG Award Red Carpet
Pedro Pascal, who has created a buzz with his performance in the post-apocalyptic drama The Last of Us, made waves on the 2024 SAG Awards red carpet as well. Keeping it simple, the actor donned a white button-down shirt, casually leaving several buttons undone, paired with classic black trousers and shoes.
And despite keeping his red carpet ensemble simple as it was, the actor still managed to cause a fan frenzy, who now envision him as the iconic masked hero, Zorro. “Give this man a mask and a hat,” one X (Twitter) user said, re-imagining The Mandalorian star as the masked vigilante.
Fans even brought up the potential crossover sequel with Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which was in conversation after the renowned filmmaker expressed interest in Antonio Banderas reprising his role as Zorro.

If Antonio Banderas didn’t have a weak heart I’d want a Zorro movie with him training the next Zorro just like Anthony Hopkins did for him.

Pedro Pascal’s career is on a high note, having recently won the SAG Award for his performance in The Last of Us. The actor is already working on its sequel and is also set to star as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the highly anticipated Marvel film Fantastic Four.
Zorro: A Legacy of Adaptations and Unfulfilled Crossover
Created by Johnston McCulley, Zorro has been the subject of many adaptations across various mediums, from film and television to comics and video games. Over the past decades, the character has been brought to life on-screen by multiple actors, including Guy Williams, Douglas Fairbanks, and Tyrone Power.
However, it was Antonio Banderas who left an indelible mark on modern audiences with his portrayal in the 1998 film, The Mask of Zorro. Banderas not only honored the character’s Spanish roots but also infused Zorro with a dynamic energy, excelling both as a swashbuckling hero and a passionate lover.
The 1998 film was a massive hit and even earned two Oscar nominations, leading to a sequel, The Legend of Zorro, which was released in 2005. The sequel, however, failed to earn the same acclaim as its predecessor.
Quentin Tarantino later suggested plans for a crossover between Django and Zorro, saying, “What I thought was such a great idea was taking the most famous fictional Mexican western hero, and putting him together with one of the most famous black western heroes.”
Although a comic book crossover series Django/Zorro was released and ran for seven issues, the ideas for a crossover film never materialized. Antonio Banderas also confirmed that Tarantino approached him for the crossover. However, Jerrod Carmichael, who was set to co-write a film adaptation later confirmed that the crossover is no longer happening. With Pedro Pascal reigniting discussions about Zorro, fans are now hoping for positive developments for the masked hero.
The Mask of Zorro is available to rent/buy on Prime Video.
The Legend of Zorro is available to stream on Netflix.
