Henry Cavill leaving franchises midway is not something new. The English actor had already left many fans teary eyed when he left the role of Superman in the DC Extended Universe. So when his ardent fans heard that he would also be bidding adieu to The Witcher after giving them three fantastic seasons, it didn’t come as a shock to many. But they were disappointed. And a report suggests that the show is all set to come to an end after Season 5. And Freya Allen couldn’t be more relieved.
Netflix’s The Witcher was able to do justice to fans’ expectations
Based upon the game of the same name, The Witcher caught the eyes of the world with a riveting Season 1, introducing everyone to Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. That was a character that fans would soon grow to love.
The first season garnered 83 million views in the first 90 days, proving to be a phenomenon for the streaming giants as well. Netflix has backed the franchise ever since.
But the initial success was just a false alarm. Viewership plummeted over the course of the next two seasons, with fans losing faith in the show going forward. But it was the Mission Impossible: Fallout star’s exclusion that many believe was the last nail in the coffin.
Henry Cavill’s exit meant Freya Allen was without the OG Geralt
When Liam Hemsworth was announced as the new Geralt of Rivia, fans were not amused, to say the least. Cavill was the star that had won many hearts with his shockingly adept portrayal in The Witcher. It was anybody’s guess that his exclusion after Season 3 was bound to create shockwaves.
The list of the disgruntled runs long. And it also includes Freya Allen. Playing the role of Ciri, the co-lead role in the show, she had developed a strong rapport with the Enola Holmes star. An end to Cavill’s time also marked the end of an era for her. After all, she had lost her long time co-star. Not an easy lose to stomach by any means.
Freya Allen shares how being a part of the show became draining to her
Though the series has been an important part of her life, she had been left drained over the course of the past 5 years. In an interview with Inverse, Freya Allen has shared how the conclusion of the series is a welcome step for her. She said,
“I was so kind of finished with it mentally. Initially the challenge was thinking that I had to do two more. It’s going to be the end of a massive chapter, which I’m excited for and ready for. But I think when I actually get to it, I’m going to be shocked at how much that hits me.” (Inverse)
Though the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes star came in defense of her new co-star, it is anybody’s guess how Cavill’s sudden exit might have impacted her. It won’t be easy to recreate the chemistry the two shared. No wonder she can’t fathom going through the end without him. It sounds like the end of the series is one of the best things that could happen to her.
