Goku’s status as an all-time absent father in Dragon Ball is no surprise. He is far more interested in battles than he is in his marriage and children. In fact, Chi Chi ended up nourishing their children alone most of the times.
On the other hand, Vegeta adores and respects Bulma and develops puppy eyes for his wife and children. Thus, a fan theory suggests that Chi Chi might not have been faithful in her relationship, and had a child with the other Saiyan in the story.
Goku and Chi-Chi had an Unhappy Marriage in Dragon Ball
It is a well-known fact that while Goku is a stellar fighter, he is not the best husband. In fact, he might be the worst person to marry. Goku and Chi Chi are rarely seen enjoying their married life in Dragon Ball. Even when they are together, they bicker due to Goku’s lack of responsibility.
In fact, we also get to know in Dragon Ball Super chapter 30 that he was not present during Gohan’s birth. He was off to the other world when Goten died, but what happened when Gohan was born? He was probably off training somewhere.
In chapter 30, Goku exclaims:
“Wow I’ve never seen a baby born before! Is that how Chi Chi did it…”
This proves that Goku was never concerned about his family and left his wife at her most vulnerable. Of course, everyone knows that he is an absentee father and Chi Chi and Piccolo raise his children. After Goku’s repeated proof of incapability of being a father, any sane woman would hate to have children with him again.
Goten is Proof that Chi Chi Cheated on Goku
Goten’s existence threatens to topple the rumor that Chi Chi and Goku’s relationship had soured due to the latter’s behavior. But what if Goten isn’t Goku’s child but another Saiyan’s?
Let’s look at the timeline. Goten was born sometime in Age 767, months after Goku died during the Cell Games. Goku died in May of the same year, and before May, he could have been busy preparing for the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament or suffering from symptoms of the Heart Virus he was supposed to die from.
No information is available for Ages 766 and 765, but in 764, the Trunks Saga took place, which kept him pretty occupied. All in all, Goku rarely had any time to procreate. As everyone knows, Goku’s favorite pastime is training, so even if he had time, he could have dedicated it to improving himself.
So if Chi Chi indeed cheated on Goku, could you really blame her?
Goten Resembles Vegeta More Than Goku
Vegeta loves and respects Bulma and it has been proved time and again in Dragon Ball. When Beerus slapped Bulma in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, the Saiyan reacted by yelling:
“How dare you… THAT’S MY BULMA!!“
This cry was followed by extreme rage that transformed him to Super Saiyan 2 (Enraged). In his rage, he launched a barrage of attacks on Beerus and even outmatched Gokku’s Super Saiyan Black with it.
In Dragon Ball GT episode 26, Goten is on a date when Baby attacks them. When he saw his date’s life was in danger, he exploded in a power boost fueled with rage. The situation mimics Vegeta’s reaction when Bulma was hit. Needless to say, Goku has never exhibited such a fierce emotion for Chi Chi.
During the Dragon Ball Z, Majin Buu arc, Vegeta is severely beaten up yet knocks out Goten so he won’t interfere in the battle. Vegeta had been Goku’s forever rival and never showed sympathy for anyone. Yet, he was merciful to his rival’s son. Is it because he has developed a soft spot for the boy, or is it because he knows the truth of his parentage?
Goten was trained by Chi Chi, was born in a loveless marriage, and resembled Vegeta. There are many factors that prove he was born out of wedlock, but not much to prove that this is exactly what happened.
