Among Sony’s many announcements at the broadcast was a remake of Until Dawn, released almost a decade ago. This is an enhanced version of the original game being developed for PC and PS5 platforms. Since it’s rebuilt on the Unreal Engine 5 game engine, it’s expected to offer a high-level experience in terms of graphics and gameplay.

Ballistic Moon claims that the game offers new and improved animations by using Unreal Engine 5 to the fullest. It’s also said to offer a more advanced cinematic horror experience thanks to upgraded characters, environments, and VFX.

Well, things did not go as expected at Sony’s State of Play May 2024 presentation. The nearly two-minute gameplay trailer of the Until Dawn remake angered the people who were eagerly waiting for the game, resulting in the developer-facing harsh criticism from angry fans.

What angry fans had in common was that the game failed to keep on its initial promise of a graphical leap forward, because in their opinion, this version looked no different from the original and was a complete waste of time. Even though it is said everywhere that the game has been rebuilt on Unreal Engine 5.

Although the game will be released this year, an exact release date has not been announced yet, which means we probably have a few months ahead of us. This may be enough time for Ballistic Moon to consider fans’ criticism and address major issues, at least on the graphics side.

Besides that, efforts persist within the film industry to adapt powerful brands from the gaming world. Until Dawn is also among the games that will be adapted into a movie, and although there is no clear date yet, the movie inspired by it is expected to be released later.
