Fallout Writers Reveals How Many Seasons They Want to Make

Created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Fallout is based on the Bethesda game series of the same name. Starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins, the series proved to be a massive success and was renewed for a second season in April 2024.

In June 2024, Wagner and Robertson-Dworet sat down for a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter and discussed future plans. During the same interview, the co-showrunners revealed how many seasons they were aiming for the series to have.

Look, we’ve talked about three seasons and we’ve talked about five seasons. Given the success of the show, five is suddenly feeling a little more appealing.

Wagner made the above statement regarding the potential of the series continuing beyond its already announced second season. However, he also admitted that the decision was ultimately out of the showrunners’ hands.

Wagner’s comments strongly imply that the creative team has a rough outline for future seasons. Therefore, the series will likely reach a meaningful conclusion after five seasons. In contrast to other shows that drag on for far too long and lose steam, a five-season plan should benefit Fallout and help it maintain its quality.

Wagner noted that the intention would always be to end each season on a satisfying note while leaving the door open for more. At the same time, Robertson-Dworet echoed executive producer Jonathan Nolan‘s comments about wanting to explore as much mythology of the games as possible.

During the same interview, the co-showrunners also spoke about the production timeline for the already-announced second installment. Wagner was hesitant to provide a rough estimate of when the new episodes could be released. However, he noted that a lot of the sets, assets, and visual effects work was already underway.

We are hitting the ground running this season. We’re going to be pedal to the metal to get season two out as fast as humanly possible.

Wagner made the above statement, implying that fans will likely not have to wait long before the sophomore outing of the series is released.

Robertson-Dworet added that since the creative team had to exclude several elements from the first season, they hoped to include them in season 2. Therefore, the production of new episodes was slightly ahead of the curve. Ultimately, both the showrunners provided a positive update on the progress of new episodes which should excite fans of the show.
