Marvel just unveiled its future phases, chock-full of superheroes. But in a bizarre twist from an alternate dimension, the BBC dropped their own bombshell: a Doctor Who cinematic universe! Yes, you read that right. “Meanwhile in the parallel universe…” a big-screen adventure with David Tennant’s beloved Doctor battling foes across time and space awaits!

Hold your sonic screwdrivers, Whovians, because this dreamverse dream is exactly that—a dream. Despite Tennant’s triumphant return for the 60th anniversary as the Fourteenth Doctor, the BBC insists his time is up. Fans were left reeling after the anniversary special’s big twist: a “bigeneration” with Tennant’s Doctor sticking around alongside Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor.

Showrunner Russell T Davies assured us it’s Gatwa’s time to shine. In an interview with The Times, Davies shut down any immediate return talk, stating,

David is parked and retired and it’s all Ncuti’s show now. Genuinely. Not that David might be coming back — he’s absolutely not coming back.

Now, that could be a major missed opportunity for BBC, but wait, there’s still some hope! Davies did hint at a “Doctorverse” thanks to the bigeneration twist, where every Doctor exists in their own timeline. So, Tennant’s Doctor could theoretically return someday.

While Gatwa deserves his solo adventures, Tennant’s Doctor’s continued existence—especially alongside Donna Noble—feels like a missed opportunity. A Doctor Who cinematic universe with Tennant at the helm? Fan service is of the highest order. But hey, that’s a story for a different universe, a universe where BBC embraces the potential of a Time Lord-filled cinematic multiverse.
