One of the many unforgettable things about these types of events is the interaction between the cast members as well as the media. It’s where they show their quirky sides while responding to the most asked questions about their roles and films.

Mark Ruffalo’s Childhood Inspiration Tickled Robert Downey Jr.’s Funny Bone

While attending the Avengers: Age of Ultron Press Conference in 2015, the cast of the Avengers sequel answered some personal questions from reporters. One member of the press said, “When you guys were growing up, who inspired you? Who were your big idols?” (via HeyUGuys).

Scarlett Johansson said without second thoughts, “Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing.” Chris Evans chimed in and gave his own answer, “I think we can all agree with that. I was going to go like a different way, and I was going to say my old man.”

Robert Downey Jr.’s answer was short and sweet: “Peter O’Toole.” Then, Mark Ruffalo jokingly stated, “It has to be Gandhi.” The crowd laughed and Downey Jr. could not help but stand from his chair. The Iron Man star added, “Ben Kingsley,” which prompted Ruffalo to mention “…and Ben Kingsley.”

Elizabeth Olsen gushed over “Michelle Pfeiffer and Faye Dunaway.” The WandaVision actress could not help but swoon: “Oh yeah, those were the girls I like.” Jeremy Renner just mentioned “my pop” referring to his father.

The segment was so much fun especially after Ruffalo broke the tension by making everyone laugh. It was clear that he knew how to crack a joke that would make his onscreen “Science Bros” lose his mind.

Many would think Downey Jr. and Ruffalo only bonded when they starred in the MCU but the two actors have been friends for quite a long time. They even starred together in the 2007 film Zodiac.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ruffalo shared how he came to be the Hulk in the first Avengers movie. At first, he was scared to say yes because he didn’t know what he could contribute to the role given that it’s been played by different actors before.

And then I got a call from Downey, it must’ve made it to him that I was hemming and hawing, and he just simply said, ‘Ruffalo, let’s go. We got this.’ In true Iron Man fashion. And then after that, I was like, ‘I guess I have to do it.’

The rest was history. It would have been a different experience for fans had Ruffalo rejected the offer. Good thing he’s got a friend like Downey Jr. who convinced him to take on the most iconic role yet in his entire career.
