Harry Potter’s Jessie Cave knows what it’s like to work as an actor for a massive franchise, and that’s why she would not recommend to her children to enter Hogwarts. Portraying Lavender Brown in the fantasy movie series – the clingy girlfriend of Ron Weasley – Cave found fame in the acting industry.

After her stint in Harry Potter, she pursued comedy, a niche she discovered suited her talent best. Now, with four children, she balances work and motherhood.

Jessie Cave Won’t Let Her Children Join Harry Potter

While speaking with Metro UK, actress Jessie Cave talked about her time working on the set of Harry Potter. Unlike many cast members, she wasn’t a child star when she joined the franchise. She was 20 and had quite a bit of acting experience. When asked if she would let her kids enter the same profession, Cave replied:

The stage mum in me, secretly yes of course. I want my children to be stars. But there is no money in the world that could be paid to let them do it. No chance in hell would they do a job until they are fully fledged adults.

Being in the spotlight from such a young age is both exhilarating and daunting at the same time. The attention from the media and the pressure from the industry can be overwhelming, especially for a child.

Cave argued, “I’ve worked with enough child actors and had enough experience in the industry to see how devastating it can be for your development,” before noting how the industry can be toxic sometimes.

With that said, she wants her kids to develop their talents and skills. “That doesn’t mean I don’t send them to singing and dance lessons,” the 37-year-old star added.

Cave admitted her tenure working on Harry Potter wasn’t all fun and glamorous the whole time. It was a huge accomplishment when she beat more than 7,000 aspirants for the coveted role of Lavender Brown, but the treatment she got from the people around her turned sour when she gained weight. She told Independent:

I was treated like a different species. It was horrible. It was probably more me and my insecurity, knowing that I wasn’t fitting into the same size jeans, but it wasn’t a time where actresses were any bigger than a size eight.

This is the reason why she doesn’t want her children to experience the same struggle. Cave admitted to feeling invisible during the time she battled body image insecurity. “Since then, it’s made me have weird issues with weight and work. And it’s so f—ked up,” she lamented.

The Harry Potter films amassed over $9.5 billion after eight installments and three spinoffs, becoming one of the most profitable and highly successful movie franchises in the world.
