Celebrities doing charity work is nothing new in Hollywood. Regardless of whether they are for selfless reasons or ones focused on vanity and good press, they help a greater cause, and those in need are given some form of aid. However, oftentimes, some of the richest people in the world, do the least amount of philanthropic work.
Recently, The Weeknd donated an impressive amount of money to aid those in Gaza, which has caused fans to praise his altruistic spirit. They also happen to bring up a bigger issue in the industry that they think requires more attention.
With the singer’s generosity, many cannot help but notice the lack thereof from some of the most successful people in the business.
The Weeknd Donates to Gaza
In 2021, The Weeknd was made a U.N. World Food Programme Goodwill Ambassador. Since then, he has been involved in an impressive and inspirational amount of philanthropic work, helping the world and those who need it in every way that he can. It was recently reported by PR Newswire that he collected $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to help provide meals in Gaza.
This builds on the $2.5 million he donated in December, bringing his donation to $4.5 million. On top of all of these efforts, he also actively encourages his fans to donate as much as they can to the cause.
It is safe to say that the singer and global icon is having a huge impact on the world that does not have to do with his music career.
Fans Point Out the Lack of Charitable Spirit in Other Celebrities
When the news of his generosity and dedication to a cause hit the internet, many fans were impressed. Many were praising him for using his success and wealth for good and positive change in the world. At the same time, others could not help but notice the efforts of others of the same stature.

Some took names and hinted at big-named artists, talking about how they are spending huge sums on menial things when a lot can be done with their philanthropy. At the same time, others chose a more generalized approach. They pointed out how everyone in the industry should be donating as much as they can, and they think most of Hollywood does not engage in charity work enough.
