The seventy-billion-dollar deal between Xbox and Activision Blizzard will always be remembered as one of the biggest gaming acquisitions of all time. Although this deal has brought some adversities with it, like the huge layoffs at Microsoft, the great outcomes were just a matter of time. The most recent example has to be Diablo 4. This action RPG from Blizzard Entertainment is now coming to Xbox and PC Game Pass. However, there is a catch.

Those who have subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Core will not be able to enjoy the dungeon-crawling action of Diablo 4. That means fans have to upgrade their subscription tiers to gain access to this game for free. Let’s know more about the scenario.

Microsoft has recently announced that Diablo 4 will be available only for Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, starting on March 28, 2024. The cheapest subscription plan in the Game Pass service, which is Core, won’t offer Diablo 4. That’s why upgrading the subscription is the best bet.  The Head of Communications for Xbox, Kaei Perez, has stated: “Diablo 4 is coming to Xbox Game Pass on March 28th, with the exception of the Xbox Game Pass Core catalog.”

It was last September when Xbox launched the Game Pass Core subscription service. Previously, it was known as Xbox Live, which provided online multiplayer access to many games. The Core version always provided a smaller section of games compared to other tiers. So it was predictable that a game like Diablo 4 wouldn’t come under this section.

What Else Can Xbox Game Pass Holders Expect?

After the Activision Blizzard deal, it was evident that a lot of games from that development company were going to fill the Game Pass library. And Diablo 4 might be the one to open that floodgate. As of now, there is no confirmation, but it is quite evident that games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft will be joining the spree soon. The announcement of Diablo 4 coming to GamePass has fueled the fire of excitement, which was started by the news of four unannounced Xbox-exclusive titles going cross-platform.

There’s another fascinating news for Game Pass holders. The highly controversial Resident Evil 3 Remake comes to Xbox Game Pass. This title is a remake of the 1999 classic Resident Evil 3. Amidst the anticipation of Resident Evil 9, this remake was supposed to be a breather for the fans. But this remake title has been heavily criticized due to removing some of the iconic and important contents from the original version. However, players won’t mind diving into nostalgia with this free remake title.

The addition of Diablo 4 to the Game Pass library is a great treat for the 34 million subscribers. Despite this huge player base, Core users won’t be able to play this game. There are also many treats waiting for Game Pass users in the form of Call of Duty and other activation stuff. Now, let’s see what else lies ahead for the Xbox fanatics.
