Madonna Turned Down Keanu Reeves’ Movie
While fans are divided about whether Madonna would have done justice to The Matrix or not, the singer revealed her career’s biggest regret of turning down the project. Beginning the conversation by stating how she was offered the role of Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns, the 65-year-old mentioned harboring regret over Keanu Reeves‘ movie, more than anything.
“I regret that I turned down Catwoman. That was pretty fierce… I also turned down the role in The Matrix – can you believe that? I wanted to kill myself. That’s like one of the best movies ever made. A teeny-tiny part of me regrets just that one moment in my life.”
Informing fans about her regret during an October 2021 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Madonna opened up about coping with the loss. Although she never clearly discussed which role she was offered in The Matrix, the singer noted having major regret over her decision to refuse the role.
Fans believe the most logical assumption of the role that was offered to Madonna would be the role of Trinity, which was ultimately played by Carrie-Anne Moss.
