Charlie Cox is known for his role as the blind and moral lawyer Matt Murdoch a.k.a Daredevil in the acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil, which abruptly canceled after its third season. Cox reprised his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and is all set to return in his own Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again.
The Netflix series was one among the six Marvel-based TV shows that were produced by the streaming platform. Apart from Daredevil, other shows such as Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Punisher were canceled as well. Now, it has been rumored that Iron Fist’s Finn Jones would be reprising the role on the animated series Eyes of Wakanda.
Finn Jones’ Iron Fist Likely To Make Comeback In Eyes of Wakanda
Despite the cancelation, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was still loved by many fans and it prompted the actor to don the Devil suit again in the MCU. He had cameo appearances in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and would be seen in the upcoming Echo miniseries.
Another show centered on his character was commissioned by Disney+ titled Daredevil: Born Again. Daredevil’s Wilson Fisk i.e. Vincent D’Onofrio also reprised his role in the MCU. Now, yet another actor from the Marvel Netflix series is rumored to make a comeback. Finn Jones, who played the titular superhero in Iron Fist is said to reprise the role albeit in an animated form in the upcoming Disney+ animated series Eyes of Wakanda.
The scoop was leaked by noted X scooper Can We Get Some Toast. There have been no confirmations. Eyes of Wakanda is a spin-off of the Black Panther franchise and focuses on the rich history of the fictional country of Wakanda. The show is reportedly centered on the War Dogs, a group of mercenaries who are tasked with retrieving Vibranium artifacts that have traveled outside the purview of Wakanda.
Finn Jones had played the role of Danny Rand in the Netflix series and had reprised his role in the crossover miniseries The Defenders. The Iron Fist show was one of the lowest-rated series of the Marvel-Netflix partnership but was improving in the second season when it was abruptly canceled.
Why Were The Charlie Cox-led Marvel-Netflix Shows Canceled?
Charlie Cox got his big breakthrough when he starred as Matt Murdoch in the Netflix Marvel TV series Daredevil. The actor played the role of the blind lawyer who doubles as a vigilante fighting for justice in a suit, taking on the moniker ‘The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’. The series was well-received and was commissioned for additional seasons.
Charlie Cox also reprised his role in other Netflix Marvel entries such as The Defenders, which saw other heroes such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand a.k.a Iron Fist team up together. The second season of Daredevil also introduced Frank Castle a.k.a The Punisher, who got his own show starring Jon Bernthal.
In late 2018, Disney announced that they had canceled the Marvel Netflix series, beginning with Iron Fist, which starred Finn Jones in the lead. The show had aired two seasons, while the partnership’s best-rated series that was Charlie Cox’s Daredevil had only gotten to season three. Other shows such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher were also canceled.
No explicit reason was given for the cancelation, but Marvel announced that the shows would be available on their own streaming platform Disney+. Marvel and Netflix issued a joint statement to Deadline,
“Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew, and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series.”
Though Daredevil had ended, Charlie Cox was expected to reprise the role in the MCU and he had his first appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
