Jena Malone Wants To Do Another The Hunger Games Movie

After the prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which starred Rachel Zegler, Tom Blythe, and Hunter Schafer, a new prequel movie is reportedly on the horizon. Entitled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, it is said to focus on Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch Abernathy.

Malone responded that she’s in favor of a spinoff, although a sequel sounds more fun for her.

I mean, and let’s not even do a prequel, let’s do an after. Let’s see what happens in the world, you know, 10 years later. Where does the government land? Where have we gotten in the revolution? I think that’s a really important part of our society. Like, yes you can rebel, but then how do you rebuild?

Katniss Everdeen star Jennifer Lawrence is “totally” down to reprise her role given a new The Hunger Games project. “If Katniss could ever come back into my life, 100 percent,” she told Variety.

The X-Men actress shared some reflections on playing the iconic character that propelled her to worldwide fame, via The Guardian:

She’s a warrior. She’s this hero that doesn’t mean to be a hero. She’s a symbol of revolt, and freedom, and hope… a futuristic Joan of Arc.

With Malone and Lawrence expressing enthusiasm to make another The Hunger Games film, the decision now lies on author Suzanne Collins to draft a new story.

Will There Be A New The Hunger Games Sequel Movie?

Yahoo! Entertainment asked director Francis Lawrence if there’s going to be another chapter for Katniss Everdeen, and he said that author Suzanne Collins would write a story when “she has a thematic idea she wants to explore.”

The filmmaker explained that “for whatever reason she had some thematic idea that made sense to tell another Katniss story” he would be glad to join on board again. He was also sure that Jennifer Lawrence would say the same, but the possibility of The Hunger Games sequel movie depends on the author.

Jena Malone’s idea will surely make an interesting plot for a potential next installment, and when the time comes that it happens, fans already know that Lawrence is down for it.

The Hunger Games is available to watch on Netflix.
