Scarlett Johansson and Zoe Saldaña have played crucial roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as their depiction of Black Widow and Gamora have left an unforgettable impact on the superhero franchise. Johansson’s portrayal of Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow in the MCU was an integral part of the Avengers team.
Despite not having any superhuman abilities, her combat skills and quick thinking made her an outstanding hero. Similarly, Zoe Saldaña’s portrayal of Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy was equally outstanding as she authentically depicted the character, making the character memorable.
However, both Saldaña and Scarlett Johansson parted ways from the MCU marking their departure in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame respectively as their characters died. But as Phase 4 commenced Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch’s fate was at the end as she was brought down on top of Darkhold Castle atop Mount Wundagore. Now, Marvel has answered what her fate holds.
Did Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch Die At The End Of Doctor Strange 2?
As ardent MCU fans remember, at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlett Witch was the primary antagonist in the film, but at the final face-off between her and Doctor Strange, she seemed to kick the bucket as she tried to correct her wrongdoings by bringing down the Darkhold Castle atop Mount Wundagore.
Fans were curious about the character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Franchise, and if they could see her in the future projects of Marvel. However, Marvel has released their book titled Marvel Studios’ The Marvel Cinematic Universe – An Official Timeline, where it was confirmed that the anti-hero character has met her end at the end of the 2022 film.
As per Deadline, the book states that she was “stopped by what she loves: her children.”
“The Scarlet Witch is finally stopped by what she loves: her children, who are safe and happy with their own mother, but are terrified of this sinister version of her.”
The book further added that Wanda Maximoff of Universe 616 destroyed the Darkhold Castle so that all the threats arising from the multiverse come to an end.
“As the kindly 838-Wanda gathers the boys and assures the heartbroken Scarlet Witch they will be loved, the Wanda Maximoff of Universe-616 surrenders: She destroys Wundagore and collapses it upon herself–ending two great threats to all of the Multiverse.”
However, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios shared that “anything is possible in the Multiverse.” Hence, he teased that the character might be a part of the franchise in the future.
Scarlett Johansson Shares The Complexity of Playing Black Widow
Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow in the MCU was mesmerizing, however, for some fans, she was just a mere member of the Avengers or a spy. But as a character, she was unique, adding vulnerability to the story. During an interview with Trippin’ with Tara, Scarlett Johansson said she made sure that her character did not rely just on her feminine qualities to get the job done.
“She uses her brain, wit, and feminine wiles to get the job done. She’s a very playful character and also a character that has a really compelling story. Because she has a kind of a gray moral code.”
While fans caught a sneak peek of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in Iron Man 2, she went on to become one of the most crucial characters in the franchise, until she died in Avengers: Endgame.
