Christian Bale has been known around the world as Christopher Nolan’s Batman and Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. Although the actor has had a plethora of iconic roles in notable movies, Bale wanted to prove something.
Starring in the 2009 film Terminator Salvation, Christian Bale revealed his reasons and regretted ever joining the film. Talking about what went through his head when he said ‘yes’ to the role of John Connor, the actor stated that it was because people around him kept telling him he shouldn’t.
Christian Bale Wanted To Prove The World Wrong
Back in 2009, the actor had the misfortune of starring in Terminator Salvation. Being referred to as one of the worst films in the franchise, Christian Bale knew that he shouldn’t have starred in this role, but he couldn’t help himself.
Regretting his decisions, the Batman Begins actor revealed on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast that he had already refused the role three times. As per their talks, Bale stated that there was no story in the movie and yet, a stupid but understandable reason drew him towards the project.
“I said no three times. I thought that the franchise…I went, ‘Nah, there’s no story there.’ I’d seen the first one and enjoyed that back in England; I’d been to the movies and seen the second one.”
He further continued,
“There’s a perverse side to me, where people were telling me that there’s no way on God’s Earth that I should take that role, and I was thinking the same thing. But when people started verbalising that to me, I started to go, ‘Oh really? All right, well, watch this then.’ So there was a little bit of that involved in the choice.”
Christian Bale was known for his iconic rants on the sets of Terminator Salvation but his co-star Michael Caine thought that it was pale in comparison.
Michael Caine’s Rants Used To Be An Hour Long!
When Bale’s co-star Michael Caine heard about the actor’s rant, he was left unimpressed. Talking about the rant on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Caine admitted that when his temper used to get the better of him, he would go on to rant for hours!
“What Christian did was quite pale to what I would do sometimes. [On why he was never recorded] “I think they started and ran out of tape,”
With Christian Bale in the film alongside Sam Worthington, Terminator Salvation received a rating of 6.5/10 on IMDB and a record low of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2009 film is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
