Alone in the Dark is among the most thrilling experiences a game has ever delivered in the history of video games. The horror of the game has been recreated by Pieces Interactive which will be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 20 March 2024. But before that, publishers of the game, THQ Nordic, felt a need to tickle the amygdala of people via a real-life experience.
To fulfill this fantasy, they reached out to Realm Pictures alongside, a small group of creatives who created a real-life version of the fan-favorite stealth video game Hitman in 2016. Alongside HAVAS Entertainment, they recreated the Derceto Manor for content creators to give them an immersive experience of the game.
Alone in the Dark Just Got Real
Influencers including PewDiePie, Gnu, and Rubius were invited to explore this dilapidated house on an island on the Thames which was quite frightening for them. As the influencers took on the role of urban explorers, it wasn’t surprising to see them influenced by the events that followed, thanks to the team who set them up for the experience while working day and night.
And it wasn’t a cakewalk for the team. They had to find a perfect place to make the experience as real as possible for the participants. Thankfully, they find the mansion where they recreated the game’s experience. Instead of putting camera operators in the house, they hid 80 cameras around the house that gave the viewers a Paranormal Activity-like feel.
Given the small setting, it was impossible to keep a control room nearby the house so they decided to operate it within the house without letting the participants have a hint about it. All of them were pulling the strings while sitting in a room that served as the nerve center of the operation. Eventually, they pulled it off, giving the influencers terror of their life.
That Has Given Them the Experience of a Lifetime
While the participants screamed their lungs out in this real-life Alone in the Dark experience, the team laughed their lungs out while they threw stuff from bookshelves and controlled the resin-filled dolls via remote controls. All in all, it was a successful attempt by the team and influencers definitely won’t be trying anything like that for a while it seems.
The remake of the game was planned for a 2023 release but was delayed attributing to a barrage of games releasing at that particular point in time. Moreover, they wanted to avoid clashing with the sequel to the survival horror game Alan Wake.
All in all, the real-life experience of the game was a success, now it’s time to witness the remake. Now that the chaotic release window has passed, it remains to be seen if the game will be able to send the horrors as the original Alone in the Dark sent back in the day.
