It’s a well-established fact that Henry Cavill is loyal to a fault when it comes to sticking to the source material. The man didn’t so much as flinch when it came to dropping a multimillion-dollar franchise because the showrunners wouldn’t respect the origin story. Although Cavill never confirmed or denied those rumors, it’s believed that his leaving The Witcher definitely had something to do with too many changes filtering in the script.

Now, sources claim that the live-action adaptation of Warhammer 40K might just suffer the same fate as the fantasy Netflix series did. While Amazon has secured global rights to the miniature wargame and will be transpiring it into a live-action series, DC’s ex-Superman is all set to lead the front lines. But the question of the hour is, will the studio do justice to the source material?

Amazon Might Not Follow Source Material for Warhammer 40K

Produced by Games Workshop, Warhammer 40000 is a renowned miniature wargame that is set to be turned into a live-action series at Amazon. And the Dawn of Justice star will not only be starring in the show but he’s also going to executive produce it along with Vertigo Entertainment.

However, the predicament with big studios handling such projects is their relentless need to switch directions and stagger away from the source material. Besides, following the origin story seldom seems to be of any importance to them as minting more money ends up being the top priority above all else. And that might just end up becoming a hindrance in bringing the sci-fi/fantasy universe of Warhammer to life.

Since Amazon “needs to make some cash off of their investment,” it might be more interested in delivering a show that caters more to the general audience. That means crossing out valuable aspects from the source material and molding the storyline into “a more dumbed-down version” of it all. As if that ever goes well.

Will the Live-Action Series do Justice to the Warhammer 40K Universe?

Amazon’s aim with the franchise isn’t to impress dedicated fans of the game, it’s to allure as many viewers as possible. So there’s a high chance that it would tone down a number of aspects with regard to the Warhammer universe because that way it would be easier for the basic viewer to comprehend it. But at the same time, that would also mean completely obliterating the franchise’s original storyline and that certainly can’t be good.

However, seeing how Henry Cavill is going to executive produce the series, there’s still hope left for fans that he won’t let anyone sully the franchise’s name by disregarding the source material. But then again, Cavill will only have so much leeway to ensure they stick to the original material. So it could all very well turn into a complicated mess as The Witcher did. All we can do is hope that doesn’t happen with Warhammer.

The release date for Warhammer 40K along with other details of the show are yet to be divulged.
