According to the latest reports, the prospects for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 are not very bright. The film was intended to carry on the adventures of Garfield’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The announcement that the Hacksaw Ridge actor will be reprising his role as Spider-Man comes after reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who revealed (via ComicBook) that the studios intend to cast both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man 4.

Reuniting with the studios would not be surprising, given that 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home turned out to be one of the most successful films ever

Well, let’s face it: Garfield did an excellent job portraying the iconic superhero, but without a standalone film, how can we get that full Spider-Man experience? We need more of that witty banter, that acrobatic fighting style, and, of course, the classic quips that only Spidey can deliver.

Will Andrew Garfield Return for Another Spider-Man Movie?

Fans have been curious about the fate of Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and whether or not the actor will ever be able to play the character for years. Following his appearances in two Amazing Spider-Man films in 2012 and 2014, Garfield’s portrayal of Marvel’s wall-crawler vanished from the public eye, seemingly signaling the end of the actor’s Spider-Man career.

Then, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he startled everyone by appearing alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Fans began to wonder whether the actor would ever again don the web shooter, as a result of this.

Prior discussions with Sony regarding the inclusion of Garfield’s Spider-Man in the MCU’s Avengers were unsuccessful, according to Screen RantSony ultimately came to an agreement to share the on-screen rights with Marvel’s web-slinging hero during this second round of negotiations, which resulted in Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy.

With Holland’s casting, there was no longer any hope for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (in its original concept) to ever happen. This wild speculation has not been helped by Garfield. After the film’s theatrical release, the actor told fans that No Way Homechanged [the] life” of his Peter Parker and “re-inspired” him as a hero (via The Direct):

“It’s changed his life. He’s going back knowing that he has brothers. He’s going back in re-inspired to follow his destiny, his calling – the purpose of his life. By catching MJ, he got to make up for a terrible tragedy that he tried to avoid in his world.”

The third Amazing Spider-Man film has not yet been formally announced by Sony Pictures, but Holland said that Garfield has his “full support” if the studio wishes to pursue TASM 3:

“I think what was so wonderful was how Andrew was able to kind of make amends with the character and the studio, you know, to kind of win the general public back…So should Sony decide to do that, they would have my full support, and obviously, so would Andrew.”

While the actor’s return for a third movie has not been officially announced, fans are still making new speculations every other day. So, while the news of his solo film might be disappointing, let’s not forget that there are still plenty of chances for our favorite wall-crawler to shine.
