Venom 3 has reportedly completed its filming and is heading in the right direction for its planned theatrical release by the end of this year. Andrew Garfield fans cannot forgive Sony for not giving him a deserved trilogy, while Tom Hardy’s villain is getting his sweet three films. Many fans also complained about Sony making a Spider-Man villain trilogy without the central superhero appearing in the films.
Kelly Marcel, who wrote the screenplay for the first two films, serves as the director of Venom 3. While the first two Venom movies were profitable, the fate of the third film hangs in the balance due to the studio’s current reputation.
Venom 3 Update Leaves Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man Fans In Agony
According to Venom 3 star Juno Temple, the filming for the Tom Hardy-led film is set to wrap up soon. Venom 3 began filming in 2023 but had to shut down production due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. In November, Hardy shared on his social media that the film had resumed production after the strikes. The new update has made fans of the character happy, but it also irked a few Andrew Garfield fans who are bitter about Hardy getting a three-movie deal.
Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man (TASM) series was intended to have at least two more sequels and several spinoffs. However, the mixed response to the second film put those plans on hold. Sony speculated several ways to get out of their Spider-Man mess and ended up signing a deal with Marvel. This deal effectively shut down the TASM franchise and Garfield was let go from the role.
Garfield returned to the MCU with a raving fan response in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Fans expected that Garfield’s success this second time around will prompt Sony to consider reviving the TASM franchise. However, Sony has been disappointing fans with several misfire projects in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Morbius and Madame Web in the SSU were some of the worst outings in the superhero genre, garnering a bad reputation for the studio.
Venom 3 update comes amidst all these messes and it is no surprise that fans are pissed at the trilogy. Interestingly, the 2018 film, Venom, grossed $856.1 million, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage grossed $506.9 million during COVID-19 for the studio. The first film in TASM grossed $758 million and the second film, a $709 million, both being a far better box office than Sony’s recent outings. Some fan reactions to the new update read:
Venom getting a whole trilogy while Andrew Garfield doesn't is criminal

No. A Spider-Man villian who won't meet Spider-Man in 3 films.

Some fans are also surprised at how quiet the Venom 3 production has been in general. As the film reportedly approaches its end of filming, there are no major leaks or scoops available about the film in CBM discussion groups. The most recent chatter about the film centered around its casting, which will include Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Clark Backo.
Juno Temple Opens Up About Venom 3 At SAG Awards
At the SAG Awards on Saturday, Variety caught up with Ted Lasso actress Juno Temple on the red carpet and discussed about her new role in Venom 3. She revealed that filming for the movie was almost complete and she absolutely enjoyed the wild and wonderful ride. She felt incredibly lucky to work with the cast of the film in such a massive production. Temple shared with Variety:
“We’re coming close to an end at the moment. It’s been a wild, wonderful ride. It’s so new to me. It’s a big set! This is crazy. It’s been so much fun and I got to work with such cool people. I’ve been so lucky in my career to just have the most incredible casts. I can’t wait for it to get out into the world. I think it’s going to be a good one.”
She also had high praise for her co-star Tom Hardy whom she shared was really close to both his characters, Eddie Brock and Venom, in the film. She revealed that the character is a perfect fit for the Peaky Blinders actor since it mattered to him. Temple shared, “It matters to him. I don’t know if anyone else could play Venom. That’s a tough pair of shoes to follow.” Interestingly, Hardy has also contributed to the story of this film.
Sony has announced that Venom 3 will be released in theaters on November 8, 2024. Venom is now available for streaming on Disney+, while Venom: Let There Be Carnage is available on DirectTV.
