Tom Hardy has graced the big screen as the Marvel character Eddie Brock/Venom numerous times and has impressed millions of fans worldwide. The character, created by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane in 1986, made his first complete appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #300. He is the most well-known host of the Venom symbiote.

Before Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock debuted in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, the character was portrayed by R.C. Everbeck in a deleted scene in Spider-Man and by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3. The role was going to be reprised by Grace once again in a spin-off of Spider-Man 3. However, it was canceled later.

That being said, the second celebrity (after Tom Hardy) who was voted for the role of Venom might take some by surprise. Fans believe that American professional wrestler and mixed martial artist Brock Lesnar is a great choice for the role of Venom/Eddie Brock.

Brock Lesnar is Fans’ Choice for the Role of Venom After Tom Hardy

Sony owns the rights to the character of Venom and by the looks of it, the company does not wish to get associated with Marvel by any means. Even so, Sony wants to build a universe like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it can obviously not be done with Spider-Man alone. This brings in the company’s need to introduce Venom as Spider-Man’s antagonist.

While Tom Hardy‘s Venom/Eddie Brock is an anti-hero, the one in Spider-Man 3 is a villain. The problem with this villain was that it hardly got any time to develop a backstory. Fans deserve to be served justice. There are two options for the villain Venom- one is the bodybuilding maniac who wants to avenge Spider-Man for destroying his journalism career and the other is just an anti-Peter Parker.

The question that arises now is which celebrity fits the character. Thankfully, Ranker has got us covered as they had fans vote for the celebrity they would like to see as the character. The second celebrity on that list is Brock Lesnar who would perfectly fit the description of the 616 Brock (bodybuilding maniac Eddie Brock). However, his lack of experience in Hollywood might prove to be an obstacle in his casting as this character.

Which Other Actors Have Fans Chosen for the Role of Venom?

Eddie Brock was introduced in the comics as one of Spider-Man’s most prominent villains. In fact, he is considered one of the archnemesis of the web-slinger, the other two being Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. However, he later transformed into an anti-hero as his focus shifted from running Spidey’s life to doing good.

Apart from Brock Lesnar who requires a good few acting classes before he can take over the role, other celebrities whom fans have deemed good enough for the role according to the votes on Ranker are Jensen Ackles, Dominic Purcell, Henry Rollins, Charlie Hunnam, and quite a few others. Only time will tell whether or not Sony will consider fans’ opinions on the casting of Venom.
