Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine appear together in an upcoming romantic comedy movie titled The Idea of You, directed by Michael Showalter. Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name is based on the movie and it follows a love affair between a divorced mother and a lead singer of a very popular and successful boy band.
Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union Robinne Lee, and more are serving as the producers on the movie and announced the adaptation back in 2018. Jennifer Westfeldt serves as the screenwriter for the movie and it was recently premiered at South by Southwest as the closing night film. The Idea of You breaks a significant record ahead of its release.
The Idea of You starring Anne Hathaway is the ‘most watched trailer for a streaming movie’
The trailer for The Idea of You starring Princess Diaries actress Anne Hathaway and Purple Hearts actor Nicholas Galitzine was dropped on March 6th, 2024. The audience not only loved the fresh and off-the-charts pairing of Hathaway and Galitzine but also managed to break a significant record for the movie.
According to stats by Deadline, with 125 million global views on the trailer, The Idea of You breaks the record for the most watched trailer for any original streaming movie. The popularity of the duo cannot be underestimated but the trailer does seem lively and fresh in addition to the duo sharing great chemistry on-screen.
The reports also mentioned that Heart of Stone and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is the second and third most watched trailer for a streaming movie. It was surprising that Zack Snyder’s highly awaited Rebel Moon couldn’t reach the mark as it recorded 72 million views.
The Idea of You premiered at SXSW on March 16th, 2024 and the actress was reportedly emotional after witnessing the response to the movie. Post-screening during a question and answer session, after a fan called out ‘I love you’ to Hathaway, she teared up and said via Variety,
“I can’t talk. I love you so much. You have no idea the gift you’ve just given us with your responsiveness, by being so connected to every little nuance in this. I will never forget this screening.”
Hathaway continued to address the crowd by stating that people talk about coming-of-age stories as being something that happens to them in the earliest parts of their lives adding that she can’t speak for everyone but she feels like she keeps blooming. She noted that when she offered the part, she was thrilled about it.
Nicholas Galitzine describes his chemistry with Anne Hathaway as ‘spiritual’
Nicholas Galitzine who also attended the premiere shared that during his audition for the part, there was an instant connection with Hathaway. He went on to explain via Variety,
“These rooms can be extremely intimidating and unnatural, but there was something almost spiritual that happened there, whereby I felt this immediate connection to Annie. We had a simpatico, a shared sense of humor. It was just easy.”
The actor further added that he remembers leaving the room thinking that regardless of what happens with the part, he was extremely proud of the moment he happened to share with the actress. Luckily the actor got the part and fans love the duo together.
Galitzine also addressed the comparisons between his character and Harry Styles at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. He said (via Variety) that it’s funny to him because it’s not the comparison that he has ever made adding that the audience likes to make it and stated that the character he’s playing is very different and they would like to let him exist in his world.
The Idea of You will premiere on Prime Video on May 2nd, 2024.
