Dakota Johnson’s upcoming Madame Web project has maintained a modest social media presence in its promotions. As one of Sony’s multiversal Marvel films set to introduce new characters, anticipation among audiences for the project is high. However, another fresh look at Johnson’s Madame Web got an even worse response from fans than The Marvels.
As mentioned above, Johnson takes on the role of Madame Web, while Sydney Sweeney is set to portray Julia Carpenter. The cast also features Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Adam Scott, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and Zosia Mamet. SJ Clarkson, known for her work on Succession, will be directing the film.
New Look at Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web Ended Up Getting More Fan Backlash Than Even The Marvels
Sony recently unveiled a new look at Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web in the upcoming film and there were a lot of expectations behind the movie. However, they might never be realized after how fans reacted to the new look.
Sony version of The Marvels. This may be even worse lol.

Many fans took to social media and simply blasted Dakota Johnson’s look as Madame Web, some even going as far as to compare the upcoming movie to Jared Leto’s Morbius – which was an utter disaster for many. This is certainly not the kind of reaction Sony would have wanted for the movie but we’ll have to see if the movie can still be redeemed once it releases on February 16th in the USA.
The Marvels Was The MCU’s Biggest Disaster In A Long Time
The Marvels, featuring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris, was released on November 10th, 2023. Despite its high-profile cast, the film did not make a significant impact, indicating a possible fatigue among fans towards Marvel-related content, with Captain Marvel’s character facing criticism.
According to Variety, The Marvels set a record for the lowest-grossing domestic weekend opening for any Marvel movie, reaching just $47 million domestically. The film also holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 62% and an IMDb rating of 6/10, positioning it as somewhat above average but not considered a highly recommended watch.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie received a 78-80% drop-off in its second weekend at the box office, making it the worst drop of any Hollywood superhero movie ever. The film also finally ended its run this week, as it is now officially the lowest-grossing Marvel film in history.
It’s become pretty evident that Marvel needs a fresh approach for their upcoming movies to regain fan interest. Despite this, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is perceived to be in a sad state currently, and it remains to be seen if the issues will be addressed and resolved eventually.
