As we come into a new year, we can see on the horizon that many games will turn into new TV adaptations. With the likes of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu 2, Borderlands, BioShock, and many more still to be announced, fans are hoping they will live up to the hype.

A new study has been released showing that Arcane:League of Legends is one of the favorite video game and television adaptations. To find the scores mentioned below, GamingGadgets used IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and more were used to calculate an average score out of 10. We have chosen 5 out of the top 15 you should check out that have been released in the last 6 years, such as Arcane and The Last of Us.

5. Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)

The Witcher game franchise sold 75 million copies, no wonder they turned this massive game into a TV show, thinking it would bring success: however, according to the statistics, the viewers only scored it a lowly 3.6 out of 10, making it 15th on the list. Witcher: Blood Origin is a fantasy miniseries created by Netflix serving as a prequel to The Witcher (2019), which scored significantly higher with a 6.7 out of 10. I guess it’s safe to say not everyone who watched enjoyed these series, given the massive success of The Witcher game series.

4. Sonic Prime (2022)

Next on our list is Sonic Prime, the animated series created by Netflix, which is the sixth animated TV series based on the Sonic the Hedgehog game franchise from SEGA. With a massive sense of nostalgia, playing these games and seeing the franchise turned into an animated TV series astounds me. Sitting and watching this series with my children, it is no surprise that it reached the score of 8.13 out of 10. This series has a massive reach to a multitude of audiences.

3. The Last of Us (2023)

The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic drama series created for HBO that is based on the game The Last of Us, which was released on June 13, 2013. The third-person action adventure game that was developed by Naughty Dog had such great success, selling over 1.2 million copies in the first week. By April 2018, the game had sold over 17 million copies. The Last of Us also won Game of The Year accolades from multiple gaming publications, critics, and game award ceremonies, many have said it is one of the greatest video games ever made.

The Last of Us series, by a very small margin, beat Sonic Prime with a score of 8.28 out of 10. Subsequently, the massive success of the game franchise had gamers waiting what felt like an age for the TV adaptation of The Last of Us, but the score may suggest that not only gamers enjoyed this series.

2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022)

The masterstroke that was Cyberpunk 2077 caught the eye of many. Cyberpunk 2077 was created by Projekt CD, and even though this game faced many bugs and glitches, it was still loved by many. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an animated series based on the previously mentioned Cyberpunk 2077, the action RPG game. The anime is set a year before the events of the game. The series was released by Netflix. The series gained critical acclaim, with praise given to the characters, animation, and worldbuilding. As a result, bagging 8.85 out of 10.

As they say, save the best till last, so here concludes our five video game TV adaptations. Reaching the number one slot on our list is Arcane: League of Legends. Based on the League of Legends 2009 multiplayer online battle arena, which is a free-to-play game but makes money through the purchasable characters, in the game you have two teams of five, and your main objective is to make your way through the enemy’s half of the map into there base, where you destroy the enemy’s nexus, the large structure located within there base.

The animated series Arcane: League of Legends is a steampunk action-adventure TV series released by Netflix in 2021 that smashed the chart with a whopping 9.4 out of 10. Many fans of Arcane: League of Legends suggest that the series is not only aimed at fans of the game, but casual viewers can also get involved. Not only did the series smash this chart, it also topped the Netflix chart in 52 countries within a week of its premiere.
