Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is nearly here, and its launch trailer blew everyone’s minds after several last-minute revelations. The game is coming out this weekend, and apart from the two neighborhood superheroes, there are a bunch of supervillains as well who are lined up to face our heroes.

With so many supervillains lined up, it could be worth looking back at the Sinister Six that featured in the first title of the series and the ones waiting to make a return and debut in the upcoming sequel. The incredible storyline from the first two games in the franchise was credited to the supervillains who brought memorable fights.

We Could See the Sinister Six Back in Action in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has an exciting list of antagonists in the game.

The first game in the franchise, 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, had a lot going on in terms of supervillains fighting our friendly neighborhood superhero from all angles. The game had Vulture, Electro, Shocker, Rhino, Scorpion, and the best villain in the game, Doctor Octopus, among others.

The sequel to the game and the third game in the series will also see a bunch of new and returning villains. The ones confirmed so far include Kraven the Hunter and Venom being the main antagonists, and the launch trailer also showed Mr. Negative, the Lizard, and Sandman in action, fighting the two Spidermen. A returning villain could complete the new set of Sinister Six in the sequel.

The launch trailer for Insomniac’s long-awaited Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also featured the return of Harry Osborn, who is seen in one of the scenes standing behind Peter Parker and holding a walking stick. While Harry isn’t revealed to be reprising a villain in the trailer, his return in the trailer indicates an additional surprise character reprisal.

Mr. Negative Looks to Have Spent a Considerable Time in Captivity

Martin Li is back in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as Mr. Negative.

Martin Li was last seen in the 2018 title, working at F.E.A.S.T., portraying a generous man working for society. When his secret criminal organization is finally revealed, however, he gets taken down by Spider-Man. Li is freed by Doctor Octopus and becomes a part of Doc Ock’s Sinister Six until he’s defeated by Spider-Man once again towards the end and gets arrested off-screen.

Nicknamed Mr. Negative for his superpowers and appearance, Li is seen reprising his supervillain role, donning a wiser look with long hair, and fighting Miles Morales in the opening sequence of the launch trailer. Nothing else is revealed about how Li manages to get freed again to take on our superheroes in the upcoming sequel, so it remains to be seen what’s in store for his character.

Venom Looks as Menacing as Expected

No other villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has fans as hyped for a face-off as Venom, who was first teased in the very first announcement teaser for the sequel. Voiced by Tony Todd, Venom sounds and looks menacing in the game and could bring about amazing boss fights in the game.

Before Venom fights the two Spider-Men, it would be even more interesting to see if the two superheroes face off against each other, with Venom taking over Peter Parker. The other interesting fight would be if Harry Osborn does end up being Venom in the end; the clash between Parker and Osborn with the Venom in the midst could set the precedent for an epic finale for the sequel.

Kraven, the Ruthless Hunter, Hunting for His Biggest Prize

Kraven the Hunter looks like he will live up to his name, causing havoc in New York City.

Kraven the Hunter marks his debut in the franchise, coming off as a ruthless hunter looking to bag what he feels would be his biggest trophy. Kraven will be hunting both the Spider-Men in the game while wreaking havoc all over New York City. In doing so, Kraven frees several captives from The Raft, the high-security prison that was shown in 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Little is known about Kraven’s plans for now, but whatever his role in the game, the two Spider-Men will need to bring everything they have to take down Kraven and his army.

The Massive Lizard in the Room

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features the Lizard for the first time.

Dr. Curt Connors’ alter-ego Lizard looks massive compared to his iterations in other media in the past, and from what’s revealed in the launch trailer, it looks to give our heroes quite a run. Dr. Curt Connors becomes the Lizard when he tries to grow one of his arms after partially succeeding in the experiment with reptiles.

Despite not being cleared for human testing, Connors takes the untested serum only to have a major side effect, turning him into a massive humanoid reptile. The version of Lizard featured in the trailers so far looks spiky, and it would be a good fight to see the two Spider-Men take on the Lizard, who looks set to wreak havoc all over the streets of New York City.

Sky-scraper-sized Sandman Teased in Launch Day Trailer

Sandman will be one of the newest additions to the Sinister Six team to feature in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as was revealed in the latest launch day trailer for the sequel. The trailer showed both the Spider-Men fighting off a giant Sandman and ricocheting off falling buildings.

It remains to be seen whether Sandman will be making a cameo in the beginning or will feature prominently in the storyline, as this is the first time he’s been revealed to be present in the game.

State of Play Stream Teased a Mysterio Symbol

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a rather mysterious symbol during a gameplay scene showcased during last month’s State of Play stream on PlayStation. A green, smoky symbol spotted during a web-swinging scene quickly became the topic of a huge debate about the inclusion of Mysterio in the game.

Though there’s not been any official hint or indication of Mysterio being in the game, his presence, if true, could add an exciting fight.

Yuri Watanabe Is Also Set for a Return as Wraith

More of a vigilante and less of a villain, Watanabe is all set for a return as Wraith. Watanabe was last seen in the DLC for the first game, The City That Never Sleeps. After killing a Maggia enforcer and letting Peter Parker know that it felt good and that she only trusted herself, she severed all communications with Parker.

Watanabe’s final message to Parker was asking him to do what he has to do and that she will also continue to do what she has to. A face-off fight between Wraith and Spider-Man might not happen, but there might be side missions where they work together.

Other Returning Villains: Black Cat, Tombstone, and Taskmaster Could Bring Interesting Side Missions

The gameplay reveal trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 revealed Kraven’s first look and, with it, a shot of him taking a look at the map of New York City with several character names popping up.

The names included Black Cat, Tombstone, Prowler, Fisk, and Taskmaster, among others, who might all make a comeback in the sequel. While Black Cat might once again work with Peter Parker on side missions, Taskmaster could offer more challenging activities, just as in the first title.

The first round of reviews for the game have all been highly positive. With a sinister set of supervillains, both old and new, in the mix, the sequel is set to be another memorable game in the successful franchise.
