With some looks at upcoming villains both returning and never seen before, to hints at important story points there really is lots to digest here so let’s take a look at what was shown.

What’s In Store for The Spiders

Venom is the biggest threat our Spiders have faced so far.

With this launch trailer Insomniac have really pulled the curtain back on certain plot points giving us our first look at Sandman in the game, previously only mentioned in the last game during a side quest. We get brief glimpses of Miles’ run in with Martin Li, a hint towards Norman Osborn’s motives with the mysterious Symbiote and Peters run in with Curt Conners aka The Lizard.

Throughout the trailer we see that Peter’s relationship with Mary-Jane is tested, likely due to the symbiote’s effect on its host and also Miles’ worry for his mentor and friend as he goes down a dark path. With all this shown we still have lots to unpack when the game releases next week.

Here’s the trailer in its full glory:

Who Are The Spiders Up Against?

Venom may be the big bad but there’s plenty in store for Peter and Miles.

While we know Venom, Kraven and The Lizard are big players in this story we were treated to looks albeit brief at Insomniac’s take on Sandman in a scene that look reminiscent of the large Kaiju-esque form the villain has taken in not only 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home but also 2007’s Spider-Man 3 which is likely going to be a massive set piece in the game.

During the trailer we also briefly see what looks an altercation between Miles and Martin Li aka Mr. Negative returning from the previous game, with Miles seen falling through a pale environment that looks very similar to one that players fought Mr. Negative in during the first game.

While Venom is present in the trailer we don’t see too much in regards to story and who’s under the symbiote though many have their theories after the previous games showing Harry Osborn being kept alive by said symbiote in post-credit scenes for both previous entries. And Kraven is shown very little of at all during the trailer.

New Threats Require New Solutions

As shown in previously released trailers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Peter and Miles will see significant upgrades to their suit technology as well Peter gaining new abilities from the symbiote and Miles getting stronger with his bio-electrical powers which means fans will see major changes to what’s available during combat and also seeing huge improvements to traversal and swinging.

While both Peter and Miles have the new web wings we’ve seen that Peter will have access to new mechanical arms similar to those of the Iron Spider suit, though in this storyline it is likely inspired by his fight with mentor turned villain Doc Ock. Whereas Miles has seen massive upgrades to his Venom Strike which is his bio-electrical powers unique to his Spider-Man.

In regards to traversal players will see significant improvements to the speed in which they can not only swing but now glide and sling shot through the Manhattan skyline. Air tricks have also been improved from brief glimpses that we’ve seen of the open world traversal.
