The most revolting thing that people on the internet have heard in the last few months is that Taylor Swift is Elly Conway, the mysterious writer behind the novel Argylle. As shocking as it sounds, what is even more shocking is that somehow, between her turbulent life and blockbuster career, Swift managed to write a chilling spy thriller that will soon be adapted into a film of the same name by the director Matthew Vaughan.
While Swifties are absolutely convinced that Swift is Conway, Vaughan took the matter into his own hands and in a recent interview debunked the rumor stating the Shake it Off hitmaker is behind Henry Cavill’s upcoming movie.

Matthew Vaughn Dismisses Rumors Of Taylor Swift Being Elly Conway
Elly Conway, an apparent pseudonym, has had people hooked for months now since no one really knows who the person behind the name is. The writer first gained popularity when the news of their then-unpublished book’s rights were purchased for a reported $200 million. Ever since then, there have been numerous theories about the author, but the most prominent of them all is that the Golden Globe-nominated singer, Taylor Swift is the brilliant mind behind Argylle.
Although there is no denying that Swift is in fact brilliant but her writing a whole action-spy-thriller that is being praised left and write and has even been adapted as a film starring the likes of Henry Cavill before it was even published? That’s preposterous, to say the least.
Debunking every Swifty’s favorite theory, Argylle director Matthew Vaughn. in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, stated,
“There is a real book … and it’s a really good book. And there is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it’s not Taylor Swift… I did read the conspiracies and I was like, ‘Wow, they don’t leave a stone unturned!’ But it’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book.”
Despite not being the brain behind the book, she did in fact influence one element in the upcoming Henry Cavill film, the presence of a Scottish Fold. Belonging to the Vaughn family, the cat was adopted after Vaughn’s kids convinced them to get it inspired by Swift’s very one Scottish Fold named Olivia Benson.
Why Do Swifties Think Taylor Swift Is Elly Conway?
Ever since Matthew Vaughan was reported to be adapting Argylle, a then-unpublished novel, the writer of the book Elly Conway quickly caught the eyes of everyone. Things became even more interesting when it was reported Apple had purchased the rights for $200 million (via NY Post).
Elly Conway, a pseudonym, turned out to be born and raised in New York and even denied any connection to the pop star. However, Swifties being Swifties are adamant that Conway really is Taylor Swift (via Vanity Fair).
However, if looked closely and as per the ‘pieces of evidence’ complied by Swift’s loyal fans (via Vulture), Elly Conway being Swift seems eerily true. For instance, the author’s first Instagram post was on the popstar’s birthday; Swift has been seen wearing and also seels an ‘argyle’ sweater; Elly Conway, also the name of the lead star of the book and film (played by Bryce Dallas Howard), has red hair, similar to Swift’s hair in the All Too Well: A Short Film music video.
While the plethora of research down by sincere hardworking fans seems to point out that Conway = Swift, Vanity Fair, Vaughan, and Conway have denied it all. Although a pretty interesting theory, it is not the first time that Taylor Swift has been embroiled in a web of conspiracy theories, for her very existence seems to perpetually attract speculation, akin to a bee drawn to a flower.
Argylle will be in theatres on February 2, 2024.
