Arkane Lyon, the studio behind titles like Deathloop and Dishonored, and Bethesda, announced Marvel’s Blade game at The Game Awards 2023 with a trailer and revealed that the game is in early development. The trailer only set the tone of the game, but fans are excited to see if the studio will be able to recreate its magic with the superhero game.

While there are scarce details about the title, a new report suggests that the game is aiming for a possible release window in 2027.

Marvel’s Blade Is Reportedly Expected to Release in 2027

The Blade game will be a third-person mature title with an immersive story and single-player experience the studio is popular for. The announcement trailer showcased the titular character, Blade aka Eric Brooks, in a barber shop getting a shave before he reveals his vampire teeth.

The trailer ended with him saying a line, “The night’s just getting started” and players were left wondering when the game would be released, but it might be a while before they get their hands on the title. As per Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb on the XboxEra Podcast, the game has an internal release date of 2027 and it’s the earliest it could come. Grubb stated:

Arkane’s Blade. If you’re looking to know when I can play that then, right now internally, they’re expecting that to be sold on store shelves and digitally in the year 2027. That is the year they are aiming for with that game, at least as far as I know what Marvel is marking on their calendar… That means 2027 at the earliest, don’t expect it before that.

The game is said to be in early development as of now, and not much about the development cycle has been known so far. Moreover, considering how the studio released Deathloop two years back, the release window for Blade sounds right. But that’s not all that, co-founder of the podcast, Nick Baker also said that he thinks that the game could be a launch for the next Xbox hardware.

The game is speculated to be cross-gen and a launch title for the new Xbox console.
The game is speculated to be cross-gen and a launch title for the new Xbox console.

Baker said that the game could be a cross-gen title, as it might be released on Series X|S consoles and the next console that Microsoft is currently working on. Grubb added that this might be the reason why the studio is not revealing whether it is coming to Series X|S consoles or not and seeing how the game could be launched in 2027, the new hardware might drop by then, so it’s only speculation.

The Marvel’s Blade trailer did not reveal the platforms that the game would be released for, but since Bethesda is the publisher of the game and Microsoft owns Bethesda, it is being speculated that the game would be an Xbox exclusive. Although this isn’t confirmed as of now, it is a general opinion, and seeing how Sony has kept Marvel’s Spider-Man titles exclusive to PlayStation, it can easily be the case.

Moreover, Bethesda nor Lyon has commented on the game’s platforms, but a leaked email suggests that Microsoft has already planned and is considering that all the games from Bethesda will be Xbox-exclusive, so it shouldn’t be a surprise when it happens. However, Phil Spencer has said that it will be decided as per the game, so make what you will of that.

Players are already very excited about the Blade game and the news about the game’s potential release window has only got them more pumped. However, since the studio has only recently begun the development of the game, the plans might change any time and the game might be launched later than 2027. With that all said, fans can only hope that the developers reveal something about the game in the upcoming months.
