Ever since 2008’s Iron Man release, MCU, with its box-office collection, became the most popular superhero franchise. But for them, 2023 was a disastrous year.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

The first was in February with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The $200 million-priced film earned only $464 million in the worldwide market. The Marvels, starring Brie Larson, also went through the same phase as it roughly touched the $200 million mark globally and became the lowest-grossing installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The only good news for the studio was the May release of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3, starring Chris Pratt, which grossed $845 million at the global market.

Amidst such a streak of flops, the MCU is hoping for the success of the 2027 Avengers movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. Meanwhile, there arises a new rumor about the much-anticipated movie that excites fans.

Avengers: Secret Wars Will Reportedly ‘Soft Reboot’ The MCU

Marvel Studios is gearing up for a shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Avengers: Secret Wars. The movie is intended to be the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga, which encompasses Phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU.

This highly-anticipated film is expected to be a multiverse extravaganza, potentially featuring cameos from across the Marvel multiverse. Speculation suggests Secret Wars might involve the destruction of Earth-616, the main reality depicted in the MCU

As for the remaining heroes, not all of them will die, and they will find a way to bring them all to the new universe. The movie does not currently have a director attached to it, and Sam Raimi, who helmed Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy, has emerged as the perfect man for the job.

During her appearance on The Watch podcast, Joanna Robinson, who co-wrote the new book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios with Dave Gonzales and Gavin Edwards indicated that Secret Wars will serve as a platform to at least partially reset MCU continuity.

Sam Raimi Wants To Direct Avengers: Secret Wars

Director Sam Raimi expressed his interest in directing another MCU film if the offer was made to him. As shared by ScreenGeek, not only did the Oz: The Great and Powerful director address those rumors, but he shared his hopes for the same as well.

I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books. I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.”

Following his very successful Spider-Man trilogy, Sam Raimi returned to the MCU by helming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. Raimi’s style of filmmaking might be just what the MCU needs after failing to impress fans and critics, project after project.

For now, we will have to wait for the official confirmation from the studio and see how all these things turn up.
