Vanillaware’s and Atlus’ Unicorn Overlord is coming out early next year for all major consoles. Apart from the Standard Edition, the game is getting a Collector’s Edition with a whole bunch of freebies. Unicorn Overlord is a tactical fantasy RPG with overworld exploration and a new innovative battle system. Atlus had earlier published three other Vanillaware games, including Odin Sphere in 2007, Dragon’s Crown in 2013, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim back in 2019.

Unicorn Overlord will be the fourth Vanillaware game published by Atlus. All the details known so far about the game have been shared below, so read on to know more.

Unicorn Overlord will be released on March 8, 2024, for Sony’s PlayStation 4 and 5, the Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo’s Switch. The official trailer looks rather colorful, showcasing the game’s storyline centering around a fallen prince and an evil ruler, and not much else was revealed. The tactical RPG was shown to feature combat that makes use of real-time movement on a map that looks inspired by Square Enix’s Diofield Chronicle.

From the trailer, combat looks to involve handling multiple units as players try to claim enemy territory while also protecting their own at the same time. An online battle option was also briefly glimpsed in the trailer.

The Unicorn Overlord Collector’s Edition is set to include a lot of extras. Apart from the obvious copy of the game packed in a Premium Edition Box and a 16-bit music album that comes in two discs, each with ten tracks. There will also be a 132-page art book and an original card game that contains 239 cards, markers, and tokens.

Players will also get the pre-order DLC content “ATLUS x Vanillaware Heraldry Pack”, which will allow players to customize the Liberation Army’s flag with emblem designs from Vanillaware’s previous titles Odin Sphere, Dragon’s Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

Unicorn Overlord Key Features Listed, Standard Edition Unofficially Priced Around $60

Going through the list of features in the game, Unicorn Overlord is going to have over 60 unique characters. Apart from humans, these characters will include elves, angels, and massive beasts as well. Players will traverse a vibrant world as they assemble grand army units and battle in exquisite locations. Gamers will look to complete heroic deeds to grow their reputation around five nations.

Though there’s no official word on pricing yet, as pre-orders haven’t yet started, it is being reported on Gematsu that the game will cost 8,778 yen for the Standard Edition, which roughly translates to $59.99. The aforementioned Collector’s Edition is also said to be sold in two versions in Japan: the physical and digital Monarch Editions.

The Physical Monarch Edition is said to include a Premium Box with the game, a 16-bit music album, a 132-page art book, and the original card game. It costs 17,578 yen, which comes up to $119. The digital Monarch Edition will feature the download codes for the art book and the music album and will cost slightly less at 13,178 yen, which again comes close to $89.99. The pricing of the game is subject to change once pre-orders start.
