Helldivers 2‘s gameplay is by no means easy, as fighting against the galaxy’s invaders, the Terminids and Automatons, takes a special form of courage that can only be found in Super Earth’s finest.

Recently, the brave freedom fighters eliminated the Automatons from the galactic war, only for the bots to come back with a larger, more lethal fleet that amps up the challenge even further, as one player’s hilarious gameplay clip shows.

The Gunship Spam Is A Serious Issue In Helldivers 2

Posted to the r/helldivers community on Reddit, the clip shows the player spectating a teammate getting absolutely swarmed by a fleet of gunships. They try to run away from the flock of flying Automaton offences, but are hopelessly gunned down in a matter of moments.

At the end of the clip, the player counts the number of gunships surrounded their teammate to be 14, which highlights a serious imbalance in the gunship’s difficulty balancing that needs to be adjusted.

Players have already demonstrated other situations in Helldivers 2 where gunships can impose an almost unfair challenge, like with gunship factories being placed right next to stratagem jammers on some planets. Thankfully, Arrowhead has been listening to the concerns.

Arrowhead’s upcoming patch for Helldivers 2 balances gunship difficulty in a big way.

Announced yesterday, the latest update for Helldivers 2 is all about creating a fairer fight for the brave defenders of Super Earth. While a few weapons and enemies snuck through some buffs, the gunships have seen some much-needed balancing fixes.

The bane of many Helldivers, the gunship spam, has been addressed. The patch significantly reduces the maximum number of gunships that can spawn at once, making the skies a little less crowded and situations like the above much less frequent. The update also reduces the direct damage dealt by Hulk Scorcher flamethrowers.

Bile Spewers and Nursing Spewers won’t be as fast anymore either. The patch slightly reduces their movement speed, giving Helldivers a better chance to outmaneuver their acidic attacks.

For those causing a little too much chaos, the update also cracks down on a few key weapons. The once popular Exploding Crossbow has seen its party muted. The update reduces the size of its explosions and the number of magazines you can carry. While it now staggers enemies more effectively, players will have to rely more on precise aiming.

Gunship factories and stratagem jammers being in close proximity is a lethal combo.

The powerful Quasar Cannon’s recharge time has also been extended by 5 seconds, giving enemies a crucial window to counter energy blasts. Other weapons received adjustments to their max ammo, damage output, and even their weapon categories.

Arrowhead’s swift action on Helldivers 2 balance patches and bug fixes is exceptional proof that the studio is still monitoring community feedback and taking it very seriously. Super Earth’s valiant freedom fighters will no longer be subject to unfair Automaton gunship barrages.
