The brave troopers of Helldivers 2 have thrown themselves into many a difficult battlefield and ended up victorious on the other side, even against harshly challenging enemies like Bile Titans, Factory Striders, and the worst of all: Joel.
Winning against overwhelming odds is part of the course for the galactic freedom fighters, but they’ve recently been questioning their chances against a new level design oddity: a gunship factory nestled right next to a stratagem jammer.
The Automaton Defense Duo Is “Devilry” For Many
A recent Reddit thread in the r/Helldivers community is abuzz with frustrated (and slightly amused) players who encountered this diabolical defense tactic. Stratagem jammers, as the name suggests, prevent players from using their precious stratagems.
While the soldiers stay confined to their ground weapons, the gunship factories right next to the jammers churn out enemy gunships relentlessly, raining down fire on the already-beleaguered Helldivers. The only way around it for many is to take down the jammers first as they dodge bullets from the gunships, and then head to the factory.
This combination has been dubbed “a new form of hell” by the user who first posted about it, and they’re not inaccurate in the slightest. The constant barrage of gunships combined with the inability to use helpful stratagems like airstrikes or shield bubbles makes for a desperate predicament.
Helldivers 2 Players Share Their Strategies For The Challenge
However, where there’s a challenge, there’s usually a way out, or at least a way to fight valiantly until the bitter end. Fellow Helldivers have replied to the thread to share their strategies for overcoming this double-pronged menace.
Teamwork is the key ingredient for success here. Players recommend one squad member be tasked with taking down the gunships as quickly as possible. High damage, decent ammo-capacity weapons like the Scorcher would be more than suitable for the job. Meanwhile, the rest of the team can focus on disabling the stratagem jammer and planting bombs to destroy the factory.
Grenades are also a viable option for some jammer configurations where the factory is right next to it. One player suggested using grenades strategically to blow up the factory from a distance, and if it’s in proximity to the jammer, both of them can be eliminated once.
While there’s a lot of specific tactics to overcome this nasty placement, it ultimately hinges on communication and coordination with the team. Many players reported facing even more excruciating setups, with one of them having a detector and gunship near two jammers.
In the end, like with everything in Helldivers 2, it’s all about teamwork. And it’s unknown whether this is a sadistic prank by the developers or a genuine test of player skill, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the former.
