Many have speculated that the franchise will lean towards the direction of Mutants, while some hope for the Fantastic Four to take it forward. A new report, however, suggests a different approach altogether.

There have been whispers of Marvel bringing back one of the most iconic villains in the history of all comics. One that was severely underused in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series. Could Venom come back in Avengers: Secret Wars and be the epic antagonist he is destined to be?

Sam Raimi and the Waste of Venom

Many have been critical of the third Spider-Man film in Tobey Maguire’s saga. The criticisms ranged in different areas, with the biggest being that the film was trying to show, tell, and portray too much. There were far too many iconic and anticipated villains in the film and they simply could not share the screen with each other.

Rather than then getting their individual, much-deserved attention, they had to all share two hours of screen time, something that failed miserably. What was the biggest problem that many had was how the character of Venom was dealt with in the movie.

He was given far too little screen time and was barely able to establish himself as the terrifying antagonist that he is known for being.

Venom Could Make A Comeback in Avengers: Secret Wars

On top of the catastrophe that took place in the third Tobey Maguire film, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has not been doing Venom any favors. While Tom Hardy has done an excellent job as both of the characters, the second movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, simply could not meet the expectations set by the 2018 film.

It would seem, however, that the character is getting yet another chance to be adapted better. Joe Manganiello, who played the role of Flash in Sam Raimi’s series, revealed to Comicbook that he would love to play a live-action version of Agent Venom in Avengers: Secret Wars. This has never been done before in life-action and the complexities of the character would be a perfect addition to the film.

“Would I love to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? I mean, sure. Of course it’d be fun in the right project. I heard Sam Raimi’s doing Secret Wars, is that right?” Manganiello told. “I don’t know, man. I don’t much about [Agent Venom], I’d imagine that’d be over at Sony. It would be very funny to come back that way.”

The live-action has been failing Venom for far too long. Shown to be too strong, too weak, or not shown enough, it is high time the character gets the respect that he deserves. This is why it is detrimental that if a version of Venom is to come into the main MCU through Avengers: Secret Wars, they get it right.
