In 2013, the actor starred in a lead role in the American action thriller film The Last Stand, which received mixed reviews and grossed only $48.3 million at the box office. In an interview with Collider, Arnold Schwarzenegger opened up about his experience working the film and how he feels to be back in action. During the candid conversation, he was asked if The Last Stand movie has the same humor as The Expendables, to which the Predator movie star replied, 

“There are moments like that, the funny moments in there, but remember that this is a very different look and story and feel from The Expendables. The Expendables is like you are going in for a wild ride, so there is a different humor. That particular humor wouldn’t work on this film.”

“I think about the last shot that we did down in Bulgaria, having this huge shootout in the airport: people are flying through the air, off the balconies and everything, and then all of a sudden, the terrorists are on us, and the only way we can find a way out, Bruce Willis and me, was to get into this Smart Car. I mean, how stupid, right? This is exactly what works in this movie because here the ballsy guys with the big guns blowing everything up.”

The titular film has had an all-star-studded cast ensemble that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role as Sheriff Ray Owens, Johnny Knoxville as Lewis Dinkum, Forest Whitaker as Agent John Bannister, Jaimie Alexander as Deputy Sarah Torrance and Luis Guzmán as Deputy Mike Figuerola.

“It’s done and I’m not in it. I said, ‘You know what, we have done this and I’m out of it.’ And [Stallone] really understood. I did [the first Expendables] as a favor to Sly. I shot it on a Saturday for two hours quickly in a church with Bruce Willis. Sly said, ‘Oh, can you do Expendables 2?’ and I did that for a weekend. Then it was expanded for Expendables 3. And that was it. We’re going to do something together one day.”
