Jennifer Lopez has high admiration for Nuts actress Barbra Streisand. Recalling the first time she met her idol, the singer still could not believe everything she learned from her.
During their conversation, Lopez received the wisest and most practical advice from the veteran actress to give her better judgment when taking on movie projects. With a career spanning six decades, Streisand definitely knows the inner workings of Hollywood.
Jennifer Lopez On Meeting Barbra Streisand For The First Time
During her guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez shared her first encounter with The Prince of Tides star Barbra Streisand.
My mom grew up loving Barbra so she passed that on to me and the love of musicals. When I was in Hollywood, and I was acting, and it was 20, 30 years ago, I met her and I just was just like, ‘Oh my God! I love you!’ and she was like, ‘Oh my God!’
During their chitchat, Streisand generously gave advice to Lopez on how to choose the right movies to work on. The Hustlers star has a great filmography under her belt, and with the help of Streisand’s nugget of wisdom, Lopez was able to expand her portfolio.
She was very nice and wound up giving me kind of advice on movies that has stuck with me. She told me, ‘Five good scenes. You have to have five good scenes that people will not forget.’ And I always think about that when I’m reading a script. I’m like, ‘Where’s the scene? Where’s the scene?’
Streisand is one of the few celebrities who has the prestigious title of EGOT. This means that throughout her career, she has received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscars, and Tony awards.
Meanwhile, Lopez is on her way to carving her path toward a similar feat. So far, the Let’s Get Loud singer has two Grammy nominations. She is also the recipient of two Golden Globe Award nods.
Jennifer Lopez Could Not Believe What Barbra Streisand Confessed To Her
In an interview with Rolling Stone via Hola, Lopez admitted she felt confused and bewildered at the same time upon meeting Barbra Streisand. The veteran star asked her how she handles fame, which puzzled Lopez.
Later on, Streisand admitted to having “terrible stage fright” which even more confused the singer.
She was telling me all these things. I was really surprised. I never thought of her that way. It really stayed with me.
Indeed, Lopez could not believe how her idol suddenly opened up to her upon their first meeting. The incident made it more memorable for the Latina star. “I was like, ‘You’re Barbra Streisand!” reacted Lopez.
Surely that night after the Oscars party held a special place in the singer’s heart, and Streisand’s advice remains helpful in Lopez’s career especially now with the release of Atlas on Netflix, a science fiction action film directed by Brad Peyton. Lopez also served as producer.
