Debuted in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, Batman is one of the most iconic characters in DC Comics. Countless iterations of the Caped Crusader have hit popular culture in live-action form, starting with Lewis Wilson in 1943.
From Michael Keaton’s unfazed and somber portrayal in 1989 to Christian Bale’s much-talked-about over-the-top Bat-voice in 2005, every Batman actor has given DC fans plenty to talk about with their distinct take on Gotham City’s vigilante. However, when it comes to making fans obsessed over physicality, Ben Affleck takes the cake more often than not.
Ben Affleck’s Height Made Him an Ideal Fit for Batman Role
In DC Comics, Batman has always been 6’2″ and his physical attributes have seldom changed in the main Earth 1 universe as well as the DC Animated Universe. However, Bruce Wayne in live-action projects has consistently changed over the years, with actors’ talents and their box office values influencing the casting decision instead of their height.
For example, Robert Pattinson, the latest star to play the character, is one inch shorter than the comics versions. Rather than his physicality, it was his layered performance in the independent film, Good Time, that brought director Matt Reeves to write the Batman (2022) script with the Englishman in mind.
In recent decades, Ben Affleck is the only actor to be exactly as tall as Batman from the comics. The 6’2″ tall actor debuted as Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016.
It’s understood that much of the inspiration for the movie was from The Dark Knight Returns comic series. To remain true to the series’ main man, Affleck also gained plenty of muscles. Accordingly, his Batman is considered absolutely spot-on by many fans.
What Ben Affleck Said About His Cameo Appearance as Batman in The Flash
Apart from his physicality, Affleck has also been praised for his brilliant portrayal of a much darker and aggressive Batman in the DCEU. However, the Good Will Hunting star made a surprising confession after his final appearance as Bruce Wayne.
Affleck made a cameo appearance in 2023’s The Flash. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the 51-year-old admitted he “nailed” his part in The Flash. He said:
“Yeah, I did finally figure out how to play that character, and I nailed it in The Flash. For the five minutes I’m there, it’s really great.”
Batman’s bodysuit in The Flash further made his character more comic-accurate. As per IMDb, Affleck became the first onscreen Batman to wear the traditional comic book colors of blue cowl and cape and grey bodysuit since Adam West. Interestingly, West was also 6’2″.
