While Gunn’s appointment has seen many big stars stepping down from the franchise, a few actors have put up their hands to be part of the DCU. Sterling K. Brown is one star who has openly expressed his desire to become a DC alum. Speaking of Lanterns, the Marvel star picked himself to be cast as John Stewart aka Green Lantern, and felt that he would tick all the boxes for the part. Revealing his fanboy association with the Justice League cartoons as a young kid, Brown in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, spoke about representation and said,

“I watched that Justice League cartoon religiously in like high school, college right after, etc. It was dope. Seeing John Stewart, knowing that there was a black Green Lantern was something like in terms of representation, was like ‘Oh Man! There’s a space for me in this world and I see it.’ And when I looked [at the cartoon], I would think, ‘I kind of look like this dude.'”

The American Fiction star also had another personal reason for wanting to play this character. Brown confessed he wanted to take on this role for the sake of his children whom he felt, would immediately connect to John Stewart with a sense of pride. It now remains to be seen if James Gunn has heard Brown and is willing to take the plunge.
