Benedict Cumberbatch Recalls An Emotional Moment With Xochitl Gomez
Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Doctor Strange is mesmerizing and iconic. His first portrayal in the 2016 standalone film was a massive hit and later he went on to appear in numerous Marvel movies, but it’s his standalone movies where fans get a closer and more personal look at Stephen Strange’s life. The 2022 Marvel film gave the fans a closer look at his life, not only in his dimension but also in the multiverse.
The film featured some old and new faces, one of them being Xochitl Gomez. Her performance was sharp and powerful and became one of the key highlights in the sequel to the 2016 film. However, the 17-year-old actress had an emotional moment because Marvel came up with her action figure.
The cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was present on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Benedict Cumberbatch shares that he was one of the first people to see her young co-star’s action figure, and how he was having mixed feelings for an action figure. But for Xochitl Gomez, it was a big deal, and she started having tears of joy.
“I thought on set when she first got it. And I, you know, I’d get reams of approvals for figurines, and actually all the rest of it. So, I’m like yeah, yeah, yeah…Okay, alright. Yes, alright. More plastic in the world. Great. She gets it, goes ‘Oh my God'”
Gomez interrupts stating “I know, I’m like, I’m crying.” Cumberbatch continued stating that “the joy of it” was too much for her young co-star “You know, it was such a moment.” While Benedict Cumberbatch is known for giving phenomenal performances in his films, he gave one of the most useless performances in his entire career.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Silliest Performance
The Courier actor made his debut in Tolkien’s Middle-Earth with Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy where he voiced both Sauron and the dragon, Smaug. The actor filmed and voiced his scenes wearing a motion-capture suit. While talking to AALBC, he shared that his experience was unique yet a bit silly due to the suit.
“The first time I stepped off the volume I felt like a complete knob. Everyone fussed over me, offering me coffee or juice. They treated me like a colleague who’d just arrived at the office, ignoring the fact that I was wearing a gray onesie with dots on it, had my face painted like an Aborigine, and had a headset on with a camera in front of my eyes. Once I got over feeling so self-conscious, thanks to their treating me normally, I had so much fun.”
His performance was different from what the fans were used to, however, once he got the hang of it, he started enjoying the role and how there were no restrictions imposed on him.
