We all know Steven Spielberg as the industry bulwark that he is. The veteran movie maker has a reputation for always-meaning business. He wouldn’t be one of the greatest in Hollywood if he didn’t. And his visage doesn’t deceive his image. But Benedict Cumberbatch thinks otherwise. He knows otherwise. The Doctor Strange star had the opportunity to stay close to Spielberg while shooting War Horse. And he had one of the most hilarious moments while working with the Schindler’s List director.
Benedict Cumberbatch got a chance to see Steven Spielberg up close in War Horse
Benedict Cumberbatch has had the opportunity to work with many veterans of the industry. The illustrious list includes Peter Jackson, JJ Abrams, and the Russo brothers amongst others. But the most decorated name on the list is that of the Jurassic Park director, Steven Spielberg.
The 47-year-old got to work with Spielberg in War Horse. The war drama gave Cumberbatch a chance to work with the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Emily Watson. But most importantly, it gave him a sneak peek into his director’s speculation with farts.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s epic discovery
In an interview with James Corden on The Late Late Show, the Sherlock star opened up about how he got Steven Spielberg worked up in a fart game with him and Tom Hiddleston. And that is how he bonded with the Jaws director.
There was an application, one that had recorded all sorts of different farts from a “very amusingly labeled list” including “The Back Door Classic” and “Oh Gosh, Is That a Wet One?”. Steven Spielberg couldn’t help but play the game when he was offered the chance.
How Benedict Cumberbatch and Steven Spielberg bonded over a game of farts
The Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy star recollected how Steven Spielberg got entangled in a game of matching farts with a specific color. The Ready Player One director walked up on Cumberbatch while he was using the application on set. Spielberg’s interest was piqued.
The veteran couldn’t help but play. And Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch couldn’t help but laugh. The latter told James Corden,
“Myself and Tom Hiddleston — who was in the film — were on the floor crying with laughter. Steven Spielberg was getting really riled … It went on far too long.”
The Power of the Dog star’s relationship with Spielberg would change from that day.
