Chris Pratt returns to the big screen voicing another iconic animated role in the upcoming The Garfield Movie. After the huge success of last year’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fans are expecting this film to be similarly fun and witty as the Mario film. With Pratt as the lead voice actor, the film is expected to deliver on both fronts, but it is the story that is ultimately going to be the deciding factor.

Atom called the film delightful and charming, deeming it a successful film that honors the legacy of the character. It seems the ending of the film teases more to come with the setup of sequels. Atom wrote on X,

Currently, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has done quite well at the box office in its opening weekend ($129 million worldwide via Forbes). By the time The Garfield Movie comes out, most fans will be done with the new Apes film and will be re-energized to experience a new world. Considering the positive reactions till now, the new Apes film might not hamper The Garfield Movie‘s box office potential by a big stretch.
Joel Edgerton Auditioned to Play Star-Lord But Didn’t Quite Understand Its Tone
Chris Pratt has become a household name as Star-Lord in the MCU and has played the character six times over the years. Originally, he was part of many actors who were auditioning for the part and it seems one of them was Joel Edgerton. In a new episode of The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, the actor detailed how he is relieved now that he was not cast as the character.
Edgerton stated that he did not understand the tone of the character and the first Guardians film. He was not sure about how the film was going to be put together and how he would fit in. The actor believes that the world is a better place cause Pratt is Star-Lord and not him. Edgerton said,
“I, unlike Chris, didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did. And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be.”
Edgerton is currently starring in the Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller series Dark Matter opposite Jennifer Connelly. The series has received generally positive reviews. Pratt, on the other hand, is gearing up for the release of his new film The Garfield Movie. He voices the titular character and the film will hit theatres on May 24, 2024.
