The modern Star Wars films proved to be incredibly divisive among fans, unlike the original trilogy which is considered some of the best sci-fi epics ever made. The continuation of the Skywalker saga and the direction that they took failed to impress fans. Even with the inclusion of the cast of the original trilogy, the modern trilogy did not resonate with fans as well as the original.

Even though Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was a huge commercial success, fans hated how the film resorted to nostalgia instead of character development. However, one of the interesting arcs was the relationship between Jannah and Lando Calrissian. The tease regarding his long-lost daughter is an exciting prospect and must be explored in the future of Star Wars.

2019’s The Rise of Skywalker proved to be a divisive end to the modern Star Wars trilogy. Die-hard fans were pissed that the movie stripped away all that was set up in 2017’s The Last Jedi and instead offered something safe that relied on nostalgic thrills. Amidst many of the character developments that the film lacked, the appearance of Billy Dee Williams‘ Lando Calrissian and his unfinished storyline was indeed a frustrating one.

At the end of the film, Jannah and Lando Calrissian talk about her origins and how she doesn’t know her family. Calrissian insists that they both set out to find answers. However, the film didn’t answer any of the lingering questions about this scene instead, they got more information from a novelization of the film titled Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker The Visual Dictionary (via Entertainment Weekly).

The novel suggests that similar to Jannah, Lando’s daughter was captured by the First Order when she was an infant. Since then nothing has been known about her. Williams himself has revealed on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast that he doesn’t “know if they (Lucasfilm) decided to follow up on that idea”. Lucasfilm is already developing a continuation of the Rey storyline in an upcoming solo film.

The film will be the perfect opportunity to explore Lando’s daughter and the life she has lived since her capture. The narrative can be shown through Rey discovering her through one of her adventures in the film. The two can become a duo that complements one another and can both co-lead another film as the franchise continues to flesh out the character further.

It is an interesting potential that Lucasfilm must take advantage of and a big way to bring back fans to the franchise with a character-driven piece. It remains to be seen whether Lucasfilm decides to explore this lingering storyline in future films.

Daisy Ridley is set to return to a galaxy far far away as Rey in a new Star Wars solo film. The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The film will continue her character’s arc after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In an interview with AlloCiné, the actress teased that her new film will take the franchise in a completely new direction.

Ridley revealed that once she heard the story of the new film, she was immediately on board for the film. She states that the new film will be a fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world in a way that audiences are not expecting. She said,

“So I thought about it for a little bit, and once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”

As of yet, it is not known when the film will hit theatres. Lucasfilm seems to be giving more focus on Jon Favreau’s Mandalorian & Grogu which is set to begin production this year. One expects the Rey film to start production after that finishes. Audiences can watch all the Star Wars films and series on Disney+.
