Well, well, well, it appears that Ridley Scott’s iconic franchise Blade Runner will star veteran actress Michelle Yeoh in an upcoming series. The news comes after a recent announcement and fans could not be more happy.
With Yeoh raising the bar for Asian actors and actresses with her iconic Hollywood career, fans are more than happy to see her in one of their beloved franchises. Especially after Ryan Gosling’s failed 2017 film Blade Runner 2049, fans are wanting to see what Michelle Yeoh could bring to the table!
Michelle Yeoh Will Be The New Blade Runner!
It was the year 1982 when Ridley Scott starred veteran actor Harrison Ford in the lead role of Blade Runner. The film was a box office disaster but was praised worldwide for its intriguing story and characters.
Following in the original’s footsteps, Dune director Denis Villeneuve decided to continue from where Scott left off. In 2017, the director starred Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, and, Ana de Armas in Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to the original film. Much like the OG, Blade Runner 2049 received great reviews but also became a box office disaster.
With plans for a continued story to the 2017 film, there are reports that Blade Runner 2099 is currently at work. The project will be a series and is backed by Amazon Studios. But what’s more harrowing is that veteran actress Michelle Yeoh will portray the lead role in the series!

As per a report by Variety, Yeoh will allegedly play a character named Olwen. Exact plot details are kept under wrap (obviously) but her character has been described as a replicant almost at the end of her life. Reaching newer and greater heights, Michelle Yeoh once revealed that it was veteran director Quentin Tarantino who urged her to keep on going!
When Michelle Yeoh Praised Quentin Tarantino!
Being an iconic actress, Yeoh once fractured her vertebrae while shooting a stunt for her 1966 film The Stunt Woman. Being down on her luck, Yeoh revealed in an interview with Town & Country that Tarantino was really persistent and helped her get back on track!
“I must say, Quentin, he’s persistent. He is who he is today because he’s full of passion and love, so he wore me down. Suddenly we became animated. So then I thought, ‘Maybe I’m not ready to give up on this’”
Tarantino was also once quoted as saying,
“I am just a huge, huge fan of hers” and that “there was always a twinkle in her eye.”
The duo was supposed to work together when Tarantino was filming the Kill Bill movies. However, that didn’t work out for one iconic reason. With fame by her side, Yeoh is currently attached to 8 upcoming projects in different stages of development.
Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas’ Blade Runner 2049 is currently available to stream on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
