The Netflix series The Brothers Sun was created by Brad Falchuk, who was known for co-creating the shows Glee, American Horror Story, and Scream Queens, and newcomer Byron Wu. The show starred Justin Chien, Michelle Yeoh, and Sam Song Li as the Sun family, who are into a life of crime. The series follows Chien’s character coming to LA to protect his family after his father is killed by a mysterious assassin.

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Netflix has canceled the show after one season. The Brothers Sun was released on January 4 and was reportedly in the Top 10 English-language series on Netflix for five weeks. However, the viewership for the show was reportedly only below seven million, which was quite low for the streaming giant’s usual standards.

Michelle Yeoh took to Instagram to express her disappointment at the cancelation. Uploading photos of herself with the cast and the crew, she said,

“Heartbroken… and finding it so hard to understand why… however, I am so very proud of My Brothers Sun family and what we presented to the world…heads held high.”

Lead actor Justin Chien too expressed his disappointment and sadness at the news. He thanked the cast and crew of the show for giving it their all and also thanked the audience for showering them with love and connecting with The Brothers Sun. The show received positive reviews, with a particular appreciation for Michelle Yeoh (via Variety).

The actress was also known for her role in the wuxia film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which won Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. She was also in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.

Michelle Yeoh’s recent hit was the Academy Award-winning multiversal comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All At Once. The film was lauded for its performances, giving a resurgence to both Yeoh and Ke Huye Quan, both of whom won the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor Oscar respectively.

However, despite her amazing reputation, Michelle Yeoh’s two shows were canceled after a single season.
