The series has been a popular choice for the audience since its first season, but the latest installment starring Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington and Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton hooked a lot of fans with their much-anticipated love story.

Bridgerton managed to keep its grip on the viewers as Jennifer Lopez’s science fiction action film Atlas debuted on Netflix. The movie was not received well by the audience, but it startlingly earned 1.08 billion minutes in viewership, a surprising achievement.

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime’s Fallout series starring Walton Goggins as The Ghoul was heavily lauded by critics and fans. Unfortunately, it only garnered 369 million views within the stated period. It earned an impressive 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although perhaps its target audience is seemingly limited and specific.

When it comes to streaming shows, Bridgerton has its own advantages over these shows mentioned. Its lighthearted tone and talented cast are only the tip of the iceberg – the core of the story is what continues to capture the hearts of the viewers.

Why Is Bridgerton So Popular?

Julia Quinn, author of the Bridgerton novels, shared why she thinks the Netflix series has become so favorable among fans. As per Netflix Tudum, she said that “romance and love are universal” and that everyone seeks a happy ending.

If you’re going to have a genre that’s all about love and happy endings, then let everybody see themselves in the story.

She remarked that the show tried to give everyone their own fairytale stories with various twists to make them relatable to the viewers.

Part of the reason [the Netflix series] is so popular is because so many different kinds of people could see themselves in the story. Over the last five years, the romance genre has exploded with diversity and inclusiveness.

It’s not really difficult to discern how a show about the Regency period became a massive hit because many details in the series exhibited elements from a bygone era. The market is now saturated with science fiction and dystopian works. It’s good to have some fun and romance once in a while.

Bridgerton Season 3 earned a fair score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, similar to the first installment but significantly higher than the second one. It is available to stream on Netflix.
