Discussing how she wasn’t cast in Terminator: Genisys, Brie Larson revealed auditioning for the role of the iconic character Sarah Connor, which eventually went to Emilia Clarke. While Larson rose with her 2015 movie Room, which led her to win the Oscar for Best Actress, she was rejected from the 2015 reboot for bizarre reasons.
Brie Larson Auditioned For an Iconic Role in Terminator: Genisys
Developing the franchise in 1984, James Cameron came up with the original The Terminator. Ever since then, the franchise has navigated through different narratives, explored the slasher-influenced horror genre, and further went into the more expansive time-traveling action sequences.

Unfortunately, after Judgment Day when James Cameron left the director’s chair, the Terminator franchise seemingly struggled to regain critical acclaim. Thus, they came up with different reboots like the Terminator: Genisys in 2015, in an attempt to retain the audience.

That’s when Brie Larson appeared for an audition for the iconic role of Sarah Conner. After starting her career with comparatively small and critically acclaimed films, Larson took the initiative to step into the renowned Terminator franchise. However, the actress was rejected during the auditions for an error and the role went to Emilia Clarke.
Brie Larson Revealed Why She Was Rejected From The Role
Taking to her YouTube channel in 2020, Brie Larson explained what exactly happened during the audition, and why she was refused the role. Beginning by explaining how the day of her audition started on a bad note, with a flat tire, she later proceeded to share her reaction to losing the part.

“I did my audition. A couple days later, I found out that I didn’t get it, and I got no feedback whatsoever. I felt like I did a really good job. I didn’t understand, and then months later, my manager called and was like, ‘Listen. We got the feedback, finally,’ and what it was, was ‘they said that they didn’t think that you know how to carry a gun.’”
Smirking through the video after finding the reason quite funny, Brie Larson added how it all happened due to a casting error. The actress mentioned that she didn’t even carry a gun in the audition, which led the people in the casting room to have the notion that she couldn’t carry a gun.

“I mean, I’m grateful because I don’t want to hold a gun in a movie. I just thought it was funny that in their head, they thought I couldn’t hold a gun, so I didn’t get the job.”
Given the opportunity, Brie Larson could change their mind, but she seemed happy that she ultimately didn’t get the gun-toting role.
