In a recent interview with GQ, Alan Ritchson was asked about his thoughts on his hit series, Reacher which is being called peak ‘Dad TV.’

He called it “weird” as he defended the show of being labeled as Dad TV. He explained that he has shown the show to his kids except for graphic scenes he stated,

“It’s funny: I’ve shown my kids the show. I let them watch season one – but I wouldn’t let them see the naked guy hanging crucified on the wall [who had his bollocks chopped off and was forced to swallow them whole], but everything else was… Within context, it all made sense.”

He claimed that the show is rather ‘family TV’ but added that he could be wrong given that he too is a father, who loves the show.

“They loved it, man. For me, it’s not ‘Dad TV’, it’s ‘family TV’. I walk down the street and little ladies on their walkers are like [adopts the voice of a decrepit old woman] “Reacher… Reacher…” It’s such a misnomer to me to qualify this as ‘Dad TV’. But I am a father and I, too, love the show. Maybe it does work.”

The show has been associated with Dad TV with several meanings attached to it. While many consider it to be focusing on a male audience, the actor rather categorized it as a family show.

Based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child, the show has turned out to be a massive hit with seasons 1 and 2. Due to its success and positive response among the audience, it was renewed for a third season in late 2023. Child, who is also executively producing the project has recently shared the update on which book would the third season be based on.

He confirmed to The Messanger

“We’ve picked it up, it’s chosen. It’s a good choice, I gotta say. I think we’ve been very creative about how we’ve sequenced the type of story.”

Season 1 was based on Killing Floor meanwhile the second season was based on Bad Luck and Trouble. The author revealed that the titular character will embark on a solo adventure in the upcoming season as he stated,

“We felt we needed a book that was more Reacher alone for the third season. And so it was a question of which story would work best for that, and which one would have a great opening scene and all of that, and we found one that we loved.”

Given that there are 27 novels left that could be chosen to be adapted in the third season, it is still under wraps. Meanwhile, one can catch up with Reacher’s adventure on Amazon Prime.
