Lupe Fiasco Declares Drake as the Supreme Rapper!

The ongoing Drake versus Kendrick Lamar debate has set the hip-hop community ablaze, especially intensified by J. Cole‘s recent apology to Lamar for dissing him in his latest album, Might Delete Later.

As tensions escalate, Lupe Fiasco, a fellow rapper, has added fuel to the fire by sharing his perspective. During an appearance on X Spaces with Aye Verb on Monday, he candidly expressed his thoughts on the matter.

Right off the bat, he deemed Drake as the supreme contender. As he said,

“Drake got bars … so I would give it to Drake. I think Kendrick’s a better technically skilled performer but I don’t think he’s a better rapper.”

Deciding who’s the better rapper is totally subjective. But with both artists stacking up multiple titles under their belts, the debate just keeps getting hotter. Not only that, the rapper also decided to speak against J. Cole, for his latest diss track, he said,

“Kendrick did so much for the mentality of young Black culture that to hear J. Cole talking about, ‘To Pimp A Butterfly ain’t sh-t, DAMN. ain’t sh-t,’ and he’s looking at what those albums actually mean to people?”

The whole scene is on fire as fans continue to fiercely debate who holds the crown, and recent comments have only added fuel to the flames, igniting even more intense battles among fans.

Why Lupe Fiasco Doesn’t Think Kendrick Lamar Is an “Amazing Lyricist”

In the same X Spaces conversation, he delved into a detailed breakdown of why he believes Kendrick Lamar falls short in the lyrical department, emphasizing that his critique isn’t rooted in animosity.

Despite his admiration for Lamar and acknowledgment of his talents across various aspects of the craft, he just couldn’t bring himself to agree that Lamar reigns supreme as a lyricist. He said,

“I think he’s a great performer. I think he’s a great rapper. I think he makes great albums. I think he’s a great conceptualist. I think he’s a great mind. I think what he does for the culture is amazing. I love him to death. I do not think that he’s this amazing lyricist, though.”

He further continued saying,

“And if I had to put a top 100 list together… the first 60 slots would be n–gas that ain’t in the mainstream that n–gas don’t even know. It ain’t finna be n–gas with record deals. It’s gonna be all these battle rap n–gas. When it comes to lyrics.”

He argued that while Lamar excels as a performer and rapper, there exists a plethora of lesser-known names who consistently captivate audiences with their unique blend of thought-provoking lyrics and music. Despite Lamar’s acclaim for his lyricism, this opinion completely varies from person to person. Furthermore, he noted that many relatively unknown rappers possess the ability to rival and even surpass some of the industry’s biggest names.
