There’s no shortage of praise for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, but there’s no shortage of criticism either. After calling out the developers for reusing the same IW engine since the start of the franchise, fans have latched onto another thing they’re upset about.

The marksmen rifles in the games are not up to the mark, according to some players. However, not everyone agrees with the statement.

Call of Duty Players Unhappy with Marksmen Rifles

Does Activision-Blizzard need to rethink how Call of Duty's MM rifles work?
Does Activision-Blizzard need to rethink how Call of Duty‘s MM rifles work?

A recent post on the Warzone subreddit by user SnooTigers8974 caused a stir in the COD community. Talking about marksmen rifles, they said:

Just leveled up MCW 6.8 for the camo grind, and I’m not sure I’ve had a worse time in CoD than that. Needing to shoot people 2 times in the head or 3 times to the chest with a single fire marksman rifle is a joke LMAO. This is in MP, so you’d need to shoot them 4 times in the head or 6 times in the chest with plate Wtf

They explained that the rifle felt worse to use than an SMG:

Before you get 3 shots off you’ve already been beamed down by a SMG in 1sec. How is it that SMGs is superior to MM rifles on range? No wonder these weapons aren’t used anywhere.

One reply echoed OP’s sentiment, expressing that Activision-Blizzard “hate snipers and marksman rifles in this game. Just a fact.

A comment under the post explained that the rifles were that way due to a balancing issue:

They are hard to balance, see the mtz interceptor at launch. With an AR they can tweak damage to take 9 shots to kill instead of 10, or about a 10% increase. Meanwhile, adding a shot to kill from 3 to 4 for a marksmen rifle is around a 30% increase in ttk. They are hard to find tune so the devs leave them in a weaker state instead of OP.

Some players explained that there was a way to circumvent this issue.

In hardcore mode, the MM rifles are a 1-tap kill, making the grind to obtain camos for the weapon much easier.

Pessimism Surrounds MW3 and Warzone’s Current State

Fans are gradually losing their hope for the franchise with the latest few releases. Recurrent cheating is a major issue in the game, and Activision is seemingly struggling to stay on top of the issue.

CoD champion Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag recently expressed his thoughts on the state of the game, essentially stating that he had no hope for a better playable experience barring “divine intervention from Activision or man up top himself” to clear out the infestation of cheaters.

This discourse emerged after a rumor was spread about cheaters turning off Activision-Blizzard’s anti-cheat system RICOCHET, which was later clarified to be false.
