Call of Duty Warzone is celebrating its fourth anniversary with the team promising a new weapon skin for players, but fans want something else. When Modern Warfare was released, it was like a second revolution for first-person shooters. Interestingly, Activision and Infinity Ward were also behind the first revolution which came in the form of Call of Duty (2003). PUBG came in 2017 and popularized the battle royale genre. Then came Warzone which arguably perfected the battle royale formula and again, was created by Activision and IW.
The game sure has come a long way, but the magic that it spread has since disippated. Players want that magic back, they want the old Verdansk back, even if that means they have to go all the way back and restart everything again. What is the purpose of a game if not fun and diving deep into stories? The current Call of Duty is lost it seems.
All They Want is The Fun Call of Duty Warzone Once Had
Players don’t want the convoluted game that it has become, they want it simple but fun. After all, it’s not a circus that requires all sorts of fancy things to attract people. One Redditor called oftiltandsalt is outspoken about this and wants the developers to “re-release” Warzone as it was.
It’s become obvious that Warzone was an accident.

He doesn’t want a “new engine,” “clumsy aiming mechanics,” or “buffed aim assist,” just the fun game. A user dubbed teamweed420 seems to have already lost hope. He says:
I’ve got bad news – you will never be able to recreate that “magic” of first playing Warzone. Verdansk hit at the perfect time both in what we’ve played before, and the conditions of the world. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
But there is still hope. At least the developers aren’t going after the disgraced non-fungible tokens (NFTs) like some gaming giants are. In fact, this couldn’t be a better time to make a comeback when the gaming industry is struggling.
Players across the globe are already criticizing what Activision did with Modern Warfare 3, maybe it is time to listen to the community. All of this may remind many of the famous dialogue once said by the veteran actor Marlon Brando in The Godfather; “Look how they massacred my boy“.
It Is Never Too Late To Begin Afresh
Whether the company will listen to the fans or not is uncertain but at least they can keep things simple in the titular game’s mobile version which will hit digital smartphones on 21 March 2024. For now, we know that Verdansk and Rebirth are making a return in some form.
Unlike the traditional 150-player lobby the mobile version will feature a 120-player lobby while keeping the game modes consistent. Moreover, Activision has added cross-progression to the game to sync players’ progress with other consoles.
If Activision does listen to the community, it may well begin to repair the damage already done with the latest Modern Warfare game. It is never too late to begin afresh if things can be changed for good.
